What a time we've had in the last 24 hours! After my uncle's funeral yesterday we were shocked to see about six inches of snow already on the ground. My niece's show was cancelled for the night so we headed back home. The trip took us three times longer than usual, but we made it home safely only to find out the power was out. The wood stove hadn't been primed so we knew it was going to be a chilly evening. We made due with cereal for dinner, primed the stove and put lots of blankets on the bed! Even though the electricity was still out for most of today, the stove was ready to go, so we got that going and I cooked lunch and dinner on the top of our toasty house warmer! Around 7:30 this evening the lights flickered and came back to life- hooray!! I quickly cleaned up the dirty dishes, threw a load of laundry in and took a lovely hot shower!! So now I am uploading and feeling great that I didn't miss a post on 365! Although the snow was a bit of an inconvenience (and I must confess I didn't believe it was going to come), it did bring some beautiful photo opportunities about. This being one of them. I just loved the bright burst of red petals in the snow and this beautiful flower seems to be the perfect symbol of the life we celebrated yesterday, rather than the sorrow of our loss.
I will do my best to catch up on all your photos over the next few days since I am now behind on commenting. Thanks for your patience!!
@annaruth Thank you Anna- Uncle Ted was in his 90's and had been having a rough time after a bout with pneumonia. My cousin (his daughter) said he was ready. He was one of those very quiet godly people that didn't draw attention to his faith. The testimonies of his kindness were amazing. This shot really sums up the day for me. @friendie Thank you Carole! A good portion of it melted off today. If the temps. hold tomorrow that should take care of the rest. @kerristephens Thanks Kerri!
Thank you one and all for the kind condolences. My cousin said that Uncle Ted had been ready to "go home" after a bout with pneumonia that made it very difficult to breathe. At 91 years he had lived a wonderful life- quite blessed and was never slow to share with others. So there is no more fitting tribute than to rejoice over a life like that. I hope the same can be said of me when my time comes.
Ann, I am sorry to your about your uncle...my condolences. The flower is such a wonderful tribute to him. Your photo deserves a huge fav! I've never seen a flower look so lovely before with just the perfect scattering of snowflakes. Mother Nature (and your camera) did a great job!
Wow! This is beautiful....and seems a perfect tribute to your uncle! I'm glad that you made it home safely. Driving in snowing/winter weather conditions scares me!
@cimes1 Thank you Carole! You are such a blessing to me! @mrssmith Thank you Carla- I know how you feel. I am a somewhat timid driver in the snow. I can do it and I pep talk myself the whole time! But thankfully for me, Jeff did the driving this time. He's much more confident than I am in poor weather conditions. We still saw a few people though who just threw caution to the wind and zoomed up the highway. Ridiculous! @simster Thank you Simmy! Love that expression! @sanera Thank you Samantha! I was waiting for Jeff to bring the car and was feeling a bit chilly so I pulled out my camera and started looking around for pictures to keep myself distracted!
Thank you all for the words of sympathy. I know we don't verbally speak these words to one another, but I am definitely warmed through and through by this community!
