Using this one for the day I missed due to our downed internet. I really like the curve of the wood and wood grain in this shot. It's one of my favorite pieces- a very special gift from a friend.
Beautiful piece of furniture. So detailed and intricately crafted. This reminds me of the details in my grandmother's furniture. My job was to dust and how I love the curves and grain of the wood pieces!
@inertie Thank you Inertia! I do love this piece. @nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole. I like to walk around in the house with the camera on and the viewfinder cocked up. It makes you look at the everyday things in an unusual way. Fun. @digitalrn Thanks Rick. I didn't like those fixtures at first, but everytime I've decided to replace them I change my mind because I've come to realize they give a lot of character to the piece, so to take them off would destroy that.
@potsbypam Thanks Pam- I'm not sure what kind of wood it is- I want to say walnut, but I'm no expert- but yes, the grain on this piece is quite beautiful. Sounds like a fun job- dusting Grandma's furniture. I bet there were some nice cookies as a reward!
i love intricate knobs and handles on old furniture. here you managed to show the wonderful craftsmanship of old with those fixtures and the grain of the wood. furniture of today are no longer made with love and pride, but with profit and money in mind. wonderful shot, ann.
@summerfield Thanks Vikki- this is a lovely piece which was given to me from a friend when she moved. She was an avid antique furniture collector but when she married, her husband was not! He liked modern, so they compromised and blended quite a few of their pieces which they both liked. And she decided to give me some of the rest because she knew I would appreciate them. I had to give some to my children when we moved into this house because it is smaller, but I kept my three favorites- this sideboard, a pretty chair and a bookshelf (of course!).
@kloud Thanks Bonnie- there are a few places here that still make lovely wooden furniture, but sadly, the taste of most people goes toward the cheaper side of things. We do know a master carpenter though. He doesn't build furniture- more in the lines of cabinetry- but his work is beautiful!
@kerristephens Thank you Kerri!
@karenann Thank you Karenann!
@mrssmith Thank you Carla!
