Red

Dabbling with iPiccy again and came up with this abstract of the color red. It brought to mind this song- old, old song which doesn't seem so outdated to me after all.

How Long

There's a tribulation comin'
Comin' to us all
Even now it's tearin' down the country
Are you preparin' for the fall?
Up from the California seaboard
It once was a paradise indeed
But the shadow it is fallin'
To fall upon an age old foolish greed (oh no no)

Some people move to the desert
Where the air is fresh and clean
But they cannot get away from that smog
They take it with them in their fine machines
See them drivin' through the desert tonight
Twistin' through the hills they think they're fliyin', they think they're flyin'
Lookin' out the window of your Chevrolet
As Arizona's cryin', hear her cryin'

And hear Him say, "How long, how long
Will you try to answer the questions yourself?"
And hear Him say, "How long, how long
Can't you see your buildin' your own private hell?"
And hear Him say, "How long, how long?"

Some people move to the mountains
To climb above the muck and the mire
But as they turn around they look back down
They see the tribulation climbin' higher and higher
You know it's gonna get them
As long as they hold on tight to their vain dreams, their vain dreams
And don't it seem we need a Savior
To show us a way, the way to be released?

Can you hear Him say, "How long, how long
Will you try to answer the question yourself?"
And hear Him say, "How long, how long
Can't you see you're buildin' your own private hell?"
Can you hear Him say, "How long, how long?"
And hear Him say, "How long, how long?"
And hear Him say, "How long, how long?"

I've got back to iPicci and practice some more. you have reached a beautiful color there and love the design..trying to figure out what it might be.

@sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry!
@bruni Thanks Bruni! This is a bottle of "volumnizing detangler" for my hair! It's a nice red bottle with a black top and you are looking from the top of the spray top down to the bottle part. The bottle was fairly bright to begin with, but I added vibrance to it and then put a black vingette around the edges. After that I added the crackled paint effect in the medium range (which is the default range in iPiccy) and lastly added the red frame around the outside (removing the inner frame completely). I liked how the black edging and crackled black paint effect emphasized the red even more than sooc.

Very creative Ann - I keep reverting to Picnik because I like the features more than iPicci. I really should stop using it because it won't be around for much longer. :(

Very cool abstract capture!!

@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole- I agree. I do like Picnik better- especially the frames. It has a few more effects and is a bit easier to use. Plus you can upload more than one picture a pop. But I keep telling myself to move on or at least try because April 19 will come faster than I think! Actually I love the HDR effect in iPiccy better than Picnik and this effect is really nice on the right kind of photo. But I will definitely miss the ease and variety of Picnik.

@annbo Thank you Ann! I appreciate your comment!

Great image - love the tone and texture.

I am just learning iPiccy, but you seem to have it mastered. Cool

Really cool processing, Ann! I found ipiccy a little more difficult than picnik . . and then didn't like the results as much. Picnik has just the basics that I want and it's so very easy to use. I wonder . . can we use the same picnik on google then or what?!

Cool

Nice processing

What a neat shot
March 10th, 2012
That turned out really cool Ann. Nice texture, but also a very nice, deep red.
March 10th, 2012
Great abstract Ann, I like the texture with the red contrasting against the black.

@la_photographic Thanks Laura!
@httpgeffed Thanks Colleen- not mastered but through some poking around and trial and error (thank goodness for the "undo" button!) I'm finding ways to do what I did in Picnik on iPiccy. It's the closest to Picnik I've found so far, although I still like Picnik just a bit more.
@karenann Thanks Karenann. It's true iPiccy is not as easy to manuever around as Picnik but it does have a lot of the same features as far as sharpen, crop, color etc. that Picnik does. What throws you off is that they are not presented the same way, so you have to sort of dig around for them at first. But once you know where they are, it's a ot like Picnik. I actually like the HDR feature better in iPiccy, but Picnik still has the better frames. I have no idea if Picnik will be available in google after April 19.
@kerristephens Thanks Kerri!
@kimmistephens Thanks Kimmi!
@bkbinthecity Thanks Brian!
@digitalrn Thanks Rick!
@rhubbard Thanks Rich! I had another red shot that I almost used but chose this one for the same reason you liked it.

Great abstract picture...and the words fit this image perfectly.
March 10th, 2012
@mrssmith Thanks Carla- it's a pretty "old" song (late 70's) but it seemed to fit for some reason.

Bev
very cool. nice abstract.
March 10th, 2012
You achieved a lovely depth of colour on this shot, nice
March 10th, 2012
Super abstract, and challenging words
March 10th, 2012
Very interesting abstract shot, Ann. Great colours and contrast.
March 10th, 2012
Cool patterns and textures in your red shot!
March 10th, 2012
shampoo bottle! oh my heavens, and at first i thought it was someone's eyeball! whew! i was almost seeing red, too! hahaha. very cool processing. you have a good eye and imagination for abstracts. i can't even make a go of the album cover challenge even though i got the photographs to play with. ugh!

i'm like @nicolecampbell i keep going back to picnik and i think i would do whatever little processing i do in there until its last day.

Striking image. I'll have to investigate ipicci. The accompanying lyrics are equally striking. I'll have to see if there is a YouTube version I can listen to since I'm not familiar with this song.
March 10th, 2012
Cool image and great lyrics

@prttblues Thanks Bev!
@melorac Thank you Carole! It helps to start with an object that has good color to begin with.
@peterdegraaff Thanks Peter- it's an old song, but a good one!
@sangwann Thanks Dione. The bottle itself has a strong contrast in red and black. The processing here just enhanced it.
@alia_801 Thanks Alia- that paint texture is from iPiccy and I don't think there's one like it in Picnik. But I think you have to use it on the right subject- a fairly simple one- otherwise it would be too busy.

@summerfield Thanks Vikki- I can't say I really plan these. In this cases I knew I wanted to emphasize the red and I just played around with different effects after I achieved the tone I was looking for. I remembered this texture and wanted to experiment with it. You really just have try them out and if you don't like them, you just hit the undo button until you find something that you do like. I imagine that people who are more computer savvy and know the fancier programs like Photo Shop could "out-process" me in the wink of an eye. They would be able to think of something before they actually process the picture and know how to do it. I come in through the back door so to speak! I'm going back and forth between iPiccy and Picnik right now because I don't want to be so frustrated when Picnik closes shop. I checked out a few other spots that others have mentioned on here, but found them to be a bit complicated for me. So for now, it's Picnik and iPiccy. And you don't necessarily have to process the album shot if your picture fits the title. The only thing you have to add is text.

@allie912 Thanks Allison- I don't know if it's out on YouTube. It's very old, but if it is it will be listed under John Michael Talbot. The album was released somewhere between 78-79? He had just left the band Buffalo Springfield and it was before he became a monk. I did find the recording on Amazon, so there's a possibility that someone has it out on YouTube too.
@steeler Thanks Howard! Glad you like them- hard to believe they're over 30 years old!

Thanks to all for the great comments. Glad you liked this one!
March 10th, 2012
great processing!
March 11th, 2012
@meoprisan Thank you Mihaela! I am trying out different on line processing sites since the one I typically use is going to shut down in April. I like some of the features of this one, and some on another, so I have a feeling I'll end up using both.
March 11th, 2012
love the texture
March 11th, 2012
@crickle1969 Thanks Crickle- got this one on iPiccy- checking out other on line options before Picnik closes its doors.
March 12th, 2012
Very nice abstract shot!

@eudora Thank you Diane! You'd never know it was a bottle of hair product!
