Well, here is a portion of my little neighborhood. This is what I see when I look to left after stepping out of my front door. Charlie and his mom, Lillian (who just turned 100!) live in the brown house, Lorena and her mother and sister live in the white house (they are originally from El Salvador), and the last house is currently empty.
When my "boys" were little we used to watch a children's program produced and performed by the beloved "Mr. Rodgers". Every program began with this song, and I felt it fit perfectly with the sunny shot I took this morning.
Won't You Be My Neighbor?
It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood,
A neighborly day for a beauty,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
I've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you,
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you,
So let's make the most of this beautiful day,
Since we're together we might as well say,
Would you be mine? Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?
Won't you please? Won't you please?
Please won't you be my neighbor?
I truly cannot believe your post today Ann. LOL, As I was driving arounbd today, I was actually singing this song. Didn't know why, but it was in my head, and now I know.
@kerristephens Thanks Kerri! @kimmistephens Thanks Kimmi! @prttblues Thanks Bev! @digitalrn That is TOO funny Rick! I think it was the sun, because I went outside, took this shot and then went to do my exercises in the pool and that's what I was doing-singing Mr. Rodgers! It was just such a sunny, happy day! lol I can't believe you did the same thing! Great minds think alike!
These verses represent what we should hope for in a neighborhood! But to have this we first must be a neighbor! These houses look so clean and friendly!!
@salza Thank you Sally! We do not have a shortage on trees around here- lol! @maggiemae Thanks Maggie. The empty was is fairly clean- not an eyesore- but the lawn is quite overgrown! @la_photographic Thanks Laura! It was just for fun. @sangwann Thanks Dione! lol I think it's a rental that goes on and off the market. I have a feeling it's not in great shape inside as most rentals are not really taken care of by the tenants. I think my neighbor (house not in picture) had looked into it and said it was going for 50,000 US dollars once, but I find that hard to believe- the land is worth that alone, even if the house is in need of repair. But said neighbor might be putting his house on the market so I'll tell him someone in Malta might be interested- hehe! @mrssmith Thanks Carla! That was one of the reasons I picked this kind of shot. I love seeing the similarities and differences in pictures like that. @paulavdmerwe Thanks Paula!
"won't you by my, won't you be my..." Yes! I'll be your neighbor! Well, your internet neighbor. :0) Nice shot! And I watched that show when I was young. One time, he came in and changed into his sweater and shoes like he did as he sang the song to start the show, and he put on two different kind of shoes! haha! Capt. Kangaroo and Mr. Green Jeans came after (or before?) Mr. Rogers.
What a pleasant neighborhood and it looks like a friendly place to live. Charming homes! Mr. Rodgers went to Rollins and lived in Orlando. Along with Sesame Street, my kids watched this every day for probably 6 years then I had another child....and the routine continued. Oh yes, I know this song by heart and once in a while I'll sing it to be silly. This was a great idea for a photo, by the way!
@espyetta You are dating me now MaryBeth! Mr. Green Jeans and Captain Kangaroo came before Mr. Rogers- much before (o: ! And glad to have you as an internet neighbor! @cimes1 Thanks Carole- my boys were raised on it too! @netkonnexion Thanks Netkonnexion! @automaticslim Thanks Automatic! @woot Thanks Davide! I know you have a very different neighborhood than mine in Genoa! Actually my daughter-in-law's youngest sister lives there and she loves it.
