Thumbnail Challenge- 1 by olivetreeann

Thumbnail Challenge- 1

Sigh...after a week of dazzling you with beautiful glassware, I could not come up with an equally entertaining adventure into the world of numbers. Part of my problem was the fact that I could not decide whether to approach the shots literally, or abstractly. So I will probably waver back and forth between the two. Today's incredibly boring shot came from the clock at the pool. A feeble attempt at playing around with the exposure resulted in the above. It's somewhat overdone but it's what came out of the camera today.
You've got to stop somewhere when you are thinking of what and how to photo or else you go cross-eyed! This is pretty good and really quite dramatic!

@maggiemae Thanks Maggie- I think I was just sort of unispired today. But that's ok- you need the Winter to prepare for Spring.

It works. Don't tie yourself in knots about this sort of thing - just go for it and see what happens.
July 10th, 2012
i agree. this works for me. (i'm still mulling my options. :-)) i like this, this is great!

I love your processing of this, Ann. That's what takes this from "just a number" to WOW ... what a great number!! You underestimate your artistic approach on this one. It's beautiful.
July 10th, 2012
You have captured one moment in time perfectly Ann :)
July 10th, 2012
Oh I think this is great, but I am a teacher. :)
July 10th, 2012
Great composition
July 10th, 2012
@dmariewms Thanks Marie! I will see what happens tomorrow!
@summerfield Thanks Vikki! I'll be looking forward to seeing what inspired you!
@karenann Thank you Karenann! All I did was play with the exposure- overexposed I think. But a shot like this has been done a thousand times. It's growing on me somewhat.
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole!
@httpgeffed Thank you Colleen!

Thank you everyone- you always say the nicest things!!

@kerristephens Thanks Kerri!
July 10th, 2012
I like it! If I were you, I'd just stick with numerals at this point...it will look neat! But....that is probably harder than sets if items.... Whatever you do will come put great I'll bet!
July 10th, 2012
I like the hand drawn effect.

Lyn
Not boring. . .interesting perspective AND processing. . .amazing how hard it is to be creative ALL THE TIME, Ann!
July 10th, 2012
Well it turned out quite well. I like the grainy effect.
July 10th, 2012
@espyetta Thanks MaryBeth! I'm leaning in that direction- you must have read my mind!
@nadaa Thanks Nadaa! And thanks for the follow- it's past my bedtime but I will check out your project soon!
@lyno Thank you Lyn! Wish I could have stored up for this one, but it's not so bad after all.

July 10th, 2012
Very cool idea! I like the processing, it gives it texture!
July 10th, 2012
Cool shot and processing! I'm sure your thumbnails will come together just fine!
July 10th, 2012
It's great - a super start and I'll be interested to see what you find for the rest of the week. (it's the lines next week that are worrying me....)!
July 10th, 2012
I will be going between the numbers as objects and just the number on a clock or sign - I have up to 5 as objects. Brilliant processing.
July 10th, 2012
@filsie65 Phil - I know the feeling about the lines.
July 10th, 2012
Cool capture and processing.

@sangwann Thanks Dione!
@cimes1 Thanks Carole!

Thank you one and all for those nice comments! It doesn't look so bad today. Now I just have to find a 2.
July 10th, 2012
Very clever, like the processing!
July 10th, 2012
I think you did well. good idea
July 10th, 2012
@mrssmith Thanks Carla! Well, this one came from the clock at the pool. My swimming friend was a few minutes late, so I pulled out my camera and was just walking around shooting stuff! But it was quite uninspired and random. Whenever I'm restless or displeased with the picture I end up with, I usually resort to processing in hopes to inject some life into it. This was semi-successful. I don't hate it as much as I first did, but I still think it's an overdone shot (in other words everybody takes a close-up shot of a clock at some point) and if it weren't for the fiddling around with the exposure, it really wouldn't have been all that interesting either. But that's just the way I see it- apparently others find it good enough- which has elevated my opinion of it slightly too.
@ruthmouch Thanks Ruth!
@sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry!
July 10th, 2012
Really clever and great processing
July 10th, 2012
@peterdegraaff Thank you Peter! I am behind on seeing your beautiful shots- but I must run and exercise. I shall return later to catch up on photos! Thanks again for your faithful comments! Your work is always amazing and a high point of my viewing time on 365!
July 10th, 2012
First ONE, is great.... interesting challenge may join in but not just yet.
July 10th, 2012
btw, loved the glassware shots.
July 10th, 2012
Clever!
July 10th, 2012
I like it too. That processing is strange: the background noise is quite interesting at the larger size.
July 10th, 2012
@mhatch Thanks Mark! Although this is a monthly challenge it's broken into weeks, so you can join anytime!
@boogie Thanks Mags!
@automaticslim Thanks Andy! It was surprising to see you write "the larger" size because I've been so focused as to what they will look like in the thumbnails!
July 10th, 2012
i think this a clever clean shot!! i love the processing on this.
July 10th, 2012
It reminds me of those glass beads fused into a table top or decorative case. Really adds interest.
July 11th, 2012
@smithak @allie912
Thanks Smitha!
Thanks Allison!
I'm glad you like it. I didn't at first but now that the 2 is up next to it in the thumbnail, I like it much better!
July 11th, 2012
Love the graininess to this, great shot
July 11th, 2012
@wenbow Thanks Wendy!
