Today's floral shape is a lovely doily that came from my Grandmother's house. She had it tucked away in a closet with all kinds of linens. After she had been moved to a nursing home and my aunt and I were going through the house, I found it. I wondered how it had ended up there. Did she not like it? Did it get mixed up with something and forgotten? I will never know. But my aunt had said, "If you see anything in the drawers or closets you like, go ahead and take it!" I thought this deserved a place in the light, not on a shelf, and so it has been on display in my home ever since.
@beachradish Thanks Beachradish! @salza Thanks Sally! @prttblues Thanks Bev! @sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry (I have them all over my house- but I'm sort of an "old soul" when it comes to decorating!).
@henrir Thanks Henri! Oh- that's pretty neat that we have the same pattern. Tatting has always amazed me. I don't know how they do it but I love the results! I had a friend in high school who just up and taught herself how to make lace just because she wanted to!
Beautiful pov and lovely in b&w! Am wondering what shade of color this is, but love the intricacy of it anyway. It reminds me of my grandmother! She kept so many things like this and "company" linens in her closets and drawers. Some of them only used once a year ... for company. I say, use them everyday. Love them and admire them. Or the next generation might not.
@karenann Thanks Karenann- there is a color shot of this doily on Jan. 5, 2012. It's basically white with green leaves and purple flowers. But you can sort of see in the b/w that the colors are varigated. Some things I do save for special occasions but others I agree- they should be out and seen so that all can enjoy them. @bkbinthecity thanks Brian! @kimmistephens thanks Kimmi! @myautofocuslife Thanks Livia! @kerristephens thanks Kerri! @twinsplusone thanks Sharon- aww that's good! @lyno thanks Lyn- I have a friend who calls my home "The LeFevre Museum". It seems that everything I have on display has a story behind it! @filsie65 Thanks Phil. I had in my mind a completely different plan for this week, but it involved sepia! So when I realized that it was supposed to be b/w, I was so bummed out!! I had to readjust what I was thinking in my mind and I landed on the floral idea. I'm liking it now, but in the beginning it was second best in my mind! @woot Thanks Davide! I hope you have some for keepsakes- it's nice to have a family heirloom or two especially if someone in the family made it. @pjonas thanks Patty! @groovygirlrn thanks Sheri!
Lovely crochet doily. This is something I enjoy making and it's actually relaxing for me. Maybe I am weird; everybody relates to the grandmother when they see this...
This reminds me of my Grnadma. I have a box full of doilies and tab le copvers that she used years ago. Why I hve them packed away, I don't know. No one is enjoying them in the attic.
@anazad511 I think that's great Ana that you can make lace! I love them and they are all over my house! So I don't always think of Grandma- most of the time I think of me when I see a doily! Thanks Ana! @lyoungs1023 Thank you Elizabeth! @daisy Thank you Kathryn! @digitalrn Thank you Rick- yes, I think it's time to break out some of Grandma's needlework for display- or to even pass on to the next generation!
I used to make doilies, too, and I still have some that both my Mom and one of my sisters made for me. They are lovely, and this one is a particular fav for me. I know how long this took to hand craft.
Your floral thumbnails are just beautiful Ann...I love the doilies..i just got one from my Dad's house when i was up there last weekend...im sure someone special made it for him and my Mom...Its funny how they took everything from the house except the bibles and the doiles..and the homemade wooden furniture my Dad made himself...those are the things i got to take..along with the most wonderful memories.....FAV
@ellimae Thanks Ellen! It sounds to me like you got some very special things. My sister is acting a little strange about sorting through our father's stuff and selling it. I am trying really hard to figure out what's going on in her mind. She will let my other sister help but not really me. Quite strange. But death and wills will do that. Thank you so much for that fav!
@olivetreeann Same thing going on here..my Sister who is handling my Dads will used to be my best friend..now she isnt speaking to me and she is not telling anyone what is going on...very strange...and hurtful..;oh well ...life goes on...Im through with all the family drama....I just couldnt believe that on my first return to the house it was completly empty....That was a shock to my system!
@ellimae Grief (and sadly sometimes greed) does strange things to people. I'm pretty sure the house won't be cleared out, but I don't know what she and I my other sister are determining "junk" and "things we're putting aside for you to see" before we sell it. She seems to think it's up to her to do all the sorting and cleaning although I keep offering. I was getting pretty bothered by it since in the same breath she'll tell me how hard this is to do while working full time. I keep offering to come and help her and then she says, "No, it's all right". Martyr syndrome maybe? Oh well, nothing I can do but let it go as you say. It's all in God's hands.
@olivetreeann Perhaps, it is part of her grieving process and she needs to be alone to sort through her thoughts as well as the possesions... still it would be nice it if would be a shared family time between sisters.... and you are right, their maybe things important to you that are not important to other family members... Blessings to you and your family...
oh, yes, i remember this from last january or february i think. and the colours are lovely. it's a lovely memento from that bygone era when everything handmade were done with great care. you're so lucky to have this, ann, and your grandmother would be proud at how you take good care of it.
@potsbypam Thank you Pam for those kind words! It probably is a part of that in some way. I know that is definitely a healthy part for me- seeing it as the past with some good and some mixed memories. But I think there is something else going on here because she didn't mind my other sister coming up to help. So, I'm not sure what it is. But thank you so much for caring! @crickle1969 thanks Chrystal! @summerfield thank you Vikki! I'm not sure if she liked it or not, but I'm glad that I ended up with it! @sharritta thank you Sharon!
@olivetreeann ah I see.... like you said grief can bring out the dark side of people. For instance, my one brother out of all five of us, took all the family photos so i have no photos of my family when we grew up. Rather sad i'd say. I am praying for you and your family, for peace, perspective and healing! :)
@potsbypam thanks Pam- I'm sure it will all work out. It truly is in God's hands- the best place for it to be. I appreciate your prayers too. By the way, I've been praying for your doctor search. Have you found one yet?
