I have always believed that birds were the opposite of pigs when it comes to eating. In fact, they are probably more alike than we think. Although birds vary greatly around the globe, and so do their diets, all birds have a very high metabolism. Because of this they eat almost constantly when they are awake. It's not uncommon for a small songbird, like Mr. Goldfinch here, to eat MORE than his own weight in the course of a single day. Little Piggy, on the other hand, keeps her figure voluptuous by consuming approximately 8 pounds of food a day (some of her relations eating a little more, others a little less depending on the type of pig). So from now on, if someone says you eat like a pig, take it in stride. But if they say you eat like a bird, you may need to join Over-eaters Anonymous!
like @alia_801 says, my birds are often covered in their food, and they take a bite or two and drop the rest. If I give them something like spaghetti or blackberries their whole head is stained until they bathe, fortunately they also love flinging water around.
aha! we have a new friend for little wahoo, haven't we? hello mr. goldfinch. and hi, little piggy. and i'm happy to report that over-eaters anonymous had kicked me out because i tend to eat like a cow! :-) nice pic!
@alia_801 Thanks Alia! lol Yes, and often think of pigs as being sloppy eaters. They may like to search through the dirt for roots, grubs and other edible things, but I know some humans who probably put even your birds to shame! @sangwann thanks Dione! @digitalrn thanks Rick- I think that's the point-comparatively speaking the bird acutally eats more because of the ratio of food to body size. Whereas the pig eats what it should in regards to its body size. I should probably send this in to Mythbusters! @httpgeffed Thanks Colleen! @wenbow Thanks Wendy! @kerristephens Thanks Kerri! @pandorasecho Thanks Dixie! lol I'll make sure I never visit you around feeding time! (o: @filsie65 Thanks Phil! @summerfield Thanks Vikki! Mr. Goldfinch was a gift from a friend who used to do lovely themed luncheons. She's stopped doing them now, but this particular one was all about birds. Afterwards she didn't want the birds she'd bought for decoration any longer and gave them to me. @nadaa thank you Nada! lol They would definitely fit in with the Toy Story crowd! @gphelps5 Thank you Graham! @maggiemae Thank you Maggie- well, that's just it; Pigs eat according to their size while birds each much more! Which means in some ways it's better to eat like a pig and not like a bird.
Cute capture of the two little friends too :)
