Playing With Piggy and Dr. Seuss

Yippee, hooray,
Today is the day!
Little Piggy is here,
It's time to play!

Yippee, hooray,
Oh jolly I say!
Theodore Geisel
Was born today!

Yippee hooray,
Now don't be a goose,
Let's play with Piggy
And read Dr. Seuss!

Our family is now in its third generation of Dr. Seuss fans! I remember that Yertle the Turtle and Horton Hatches the Egg were two of my favorites. My sons loved Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat in the Hat. Isaac and Sam are following in their fathers' footsteps with Green Eggs and Ham. Dr. Seuss is definitely an American Classic- but did you know he was rejected 36 times before someone finally decided to publish him?!
Very cute

Dr Seuss lives on in everybody's lives! Hes a magic man with his storys. This is a great picture and should have been in the book!

This is way too cute. I was starting to miss piggy!!

Great shot -- love the backstory. I toyed with making Green Eggs and ham this morning to photo, but my husband offered to make French toast and that was that!

@kerristephens Thank you Kerri!
@maggiemae Thank you Maggie! I had very little computer time today! My son in Michigan was skyping with Jeff most of the afternoon trying to get his help in repairing the plumbing in the shower. I was truly frustrated because I had so much to do on line- but at the same time amazed that they'd be able to work on a home improvement project like that long distance! It left little time to process the shot tonight, but it is what it is!
@smithak Thank you Smitha! Piggy is blushing at your kind words!
@taffy Thank you Taffy! Oh, I would definitely choose French Toast over eggs too!

Lovely colourful shot! I didn't know Dr Seuss until adulthood, but I think he's great!

Wonderful and he looks so happy!

He is great Phil, although I have now spent far to long playing Hop-On-Pop: http://www.seussville.com/#/games

Great capture of Piggy! I have to admit, I've never really got the Doctor Seuss thing myself... though I know plenty of people who have. I guess it depends what was read to us when we were little...
March 3rd, 2013
Very colourful shot, Ann. I think this title or children's series has not made it to Europe - to Malta at least - yet. Would love to see my grandchildren's reaction to it.

@lyno Thank you Lyn!
@httpgeffed Thank you Colleen!
@ruthmouch Thank you Ruth!
@filsie65 Thank you Phil!
@gphelps5 Thank you Graham!
@alia_801 Thank you Alia! Several movies of his books have been made now- but I do not like them. To me the books are fun and imaginative. They are basically simple poems that have fun with the phonetics of American English. Since they tend to be simple words, they are easy to read- especially for children who are learning to read. Add whimsical illustrations and fanciful characters into the mix and that's Dr. Seuss.
@sangwann Thank you Dione! It's probably easy enough to find examples on line. The books are popular not only for their sing-song rhymes, but the illustrations too. If you type Dr. Seuss or Theodore Geisel in to your search engine, I'm sure it will pull up examples for you.

Lol! And I did not know that about the rejections. But I can see that someone may have thought his nonsense words were weird. I love Dr. suess! I have this giant book of all his stories in one book. On Friday, I wore my Yertle the Turtle shirt to school. :0) I love your poem! And Piggyis looking well!
March 4th, 2013
It's been awhile since I've seen a Dr. Seuss book but back in the 70s my children had them all & I used to love reading the clever stories. Miss Piggy did well and I love the poem. There have been so many cute entries for this theme and yours is one of them.
March 4th, 2013
Well done shot! I loved reading the books of Dr. Seuss to my students. I knew that his first book had that many rejections. However, reading about his rejections still gives me hope.
March 4th, 2013
@espyetta Thank you MaryBeth! Jeff has a One Fish, Two Fish t-shirt which I forgot about- I could have gotten that in the picture too- oh well, next year!
@cimes1 Thanks Carole! I can't wait to start reading Green Eggs to my grandsons like I used to read it to my boys. I'm looking forward to the next generation of giggles and laughter. lol I do love writing Suess-like poems!
@daisy Thank you Kathryn- yes, I agree about the hope aspect of his story!
March 4th, 2013

Cute shot. Love how you added Piggy to it. I used to have all Dr. Suess books but I gave them away. No need for them in my home anymore. Fun pic that you got here. I can still recite The Cat in the Hat by heart.
March 5th, 2013
@digitalrn Thanks Rick! She's in the pink as always!
@prttblues Thanks Bev! The chorus to Horton hatches the egg is the only thing I really remember. Green eggs and ham just gets jumbled in my mind, so that's impressive to me that you can recite the Cat in the Hat!
March 5th, 2013
Beyond adorable! So creative!
