Flower and Fly

What a beautiful day we had here! I sat out on the deck this afternoon and just took in the sun and fresh air. I had three winged visitors today- The Eastern Peewee, a humming bird and this fellow. I'm not sure what kind he is but his big red eyes made him a little more interesting than the average fly on the wall.
You don't think that he has a black shiny eye and this is reflecting the colour of the flower? Its just a thought.

I think they are red eyes. And I have shot alot of flies! Just ask Ann. Haha! But who knows?

Ann....@olivetreeann If you view this large, the details are amazing! A bug AND a flower! You rock!

Lovely colours in that flower, and nice capture of the red-eyed visitor too. Perhaps he'd just had a long flight...

Great shot, Ann! :) Lovely flower and creepy little bug! I wonder if it's the kind of fly that bites. I know for sure it's not a horse fly. Could it be a type of bee? Whatever the insect, you caught it well. Good job! :)

@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole!
@bruni Thank you Bruni!
@dakotaburns Thank you Donald!
@prttblues Thanks Bev! It was definitely a fly and there were 3 possibilities of match-ups in my bug book. But I can't be certain which one because I can't see the back of this guy in this shot and it's the only good one. Tachinid Fly, Flesh Fly or Biting Stable Fly- they all have the same colors and red eyes. None of them are pretty and none of them sound nice! I think if he was the biting kind, the only reason he didn't come after me was because I probably blinded him on the first shot. I didn't realize I had the flash on with the first shot. He probably couldn't see for a minute or so!
@pflaume Thanks Lisa!
@vposey Thank you Vickie!
@archaeofrog Thank you Katie!
