exciting trip, was it not? :-) when i used to drive and i encountered something like this, i tried to find the nearest exit or safest place to stop. this is the reason why i don't like to drive down to chicago anymore. the last time i drove there with my sister, the news on the radio from detroit to gary kept saying there was a tornado touching everywhere we would pass. i've driven through blinding snow blizzards at night (that's scary!) and storms like this and flood, but tornado? that's tempting fate. partner would probably drive through it, though.
Thank you to one and all- and for your concern for our safety. And now for my lecture on "How Photography is Deceiving"! Yes, it was as heavy a downpour as this looks. But there are several factors you cannot see in this photo. 1) We were in Jeff's van since the car is still off the road and it is a very heavy vehicle so we don't slide much in it. 2) His wipers were on and happily slapping away- but he had them on a slower speed at that particular moment so it was just a matter of timing the shot. 3) The second after I took this shot, the wipers completely removed all excess water from the windshield and we could see everything. And 4) The rain would be coming down at a steady pace for several minutes and then suddenly "explode" out of the heavens. Just as quickly as it would come, it would disappear. So all in all we could see everything for most of the trip home. This shot was all a matter of timing!
@summerfield I have driven through a blizzard at night- this was easier!
@tonydebont Thanks Tony! I just didn't want people to worry or think that I was doing something so dangerous just to get a shot. It was pretty wet though- and this happened three times that day!
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole! The photo is sort of misleading- it was raining very heavily but Jeff's windshield wipers work just fine. I just timed it to take the shot while they were down.
@mrssmith203 Yes, we did! Thanks Carla! @eniaral This was what we ran into on the way home from church on Sunday- 3 times!! And we had a big one on the way there too. My flowers weren't too thirsty to begin with- and today one of the pots was so full of water the baby wrens were taking a bird bath in it!
@prttblues Thanks Bev! -I think we're sort of in line with one another. Your weather is usually similar to ours. The exception was Sandy when you got clobbered and we managed to get by without as much.
