This was not really the finale for the month that I was thinking of, but when we ended up going out of town for the holiday, I inadvertently left my photography book home. So my pictures became based on some of the things I'd read instead of testing out some of Patterson's principles as I had been. In this shot I was working with lines, monochromatic colors and patterns. I liked the lines of the railing and the angle of the steps combined with the pattern caused by the stairs as they butt up against the wall. I originally shot this photo in color. I recently saw a video which encouraged photographers to shoot their black and white photos in color and then convert them to the monochromatic format. The color version didn't have much interest to me even with the great pattern formed by the stairs, so I changed it to black and white in the post-processing and liked how it upped the contrast. I then added extra contrast to strengthen the black lines of the railing. Lastly I added the reflection frame because I wanted something that faded in and out with the picture. In the end, I'm pleased with the strong lines and bold composition. It's not the wham-bang photo I'd hoped to finish with, but it's a good one nonetheless.
Nice abstract. Stark contrasting b&w. Didn't participate in the book club as much as I had intended, due to a very busy month, but I have been and still am reading it and it is full of insight and I feel it has already changed the way I look at things.
Thank you Sally, Maggie, Alia, Adrian, Dione, Rick, Carole, and Kerri!
