@lisabell Thank you Lisa! There is still more green than color around, but these two are certainly ahead of the rest. @archaeofrog Thank you Katie! That book club challenge was hands down the best challenge I've ever taken part in!
@olivetreeann Aww, thanks, Ann! I keep thinking about things from the book all the time too. I finally got a copy of "Creative Black & White" by Harold Davis that Taffy had suggested, but I'm not sure how well it would work. He has some good thoughts at the beginning, but then it's a lot of post-processing specifics, and I'm not sure how many people will be up for that.
@archaeofrog Hmmm- I do like the idea of a b/w book club. We'll have to keep our eyes open for more possibilities. Not every one has the same post-processing aspirations either. Some don't even want to do it. But there's nothing that says we have to do an entire book either. The "club" can focus on the actual picture taking and leave the rest of the book up to those who buy it or borrow it from the library. You know who else might have a good suggestion is Nada- she is an avid reader and from the looks of her bookshelf, she reads a lot about photography too. @nadaa any ideas Nada?
Another idea might be to find a set of tutorials/lessons/ideas online and use them as a guide. That way people can participate without having to find access to a book. I unfortunately fell out of the last book because other things in life took over. Now, I have a bit more and want to continue learning. This week, I tried the get-pushed challenge for the first time, and that has me thinking.
I find the technique challenge great for learning. Some of them are beyond my ability, but I enjoy seeing what people post and the explanations and sometimes even making an attempt to join in.
@archaeofrog@olivetreeann I think you're right -- if more is post processing than in-camera and technique for that, it will be less relevant. But I agree that b&w would still be a good choice for book focus.
Yeah, I definitely like the idea of a black and white book club too, and I think you're right, Taffy, that well get more interest if the focus is on composition or uniqueness of black and white than just postprocessing.
Thank you all! Great input and ideas. I am definitely interested more in composition and understanding the ins and outs of working with b/w over post-processing. My desire is really to rely less on it and to get the shot right in camera as opposed to "out" of camera. So I like everything you've said.
That is a very interesting idea to use on-line tutorials Nada. But can we find one(s) that might be free so that they are accessible to everyone? I've never tried one- but I like the quick ones that Damon Guy posts on Photokonnexions. They come from an assortment of people and cover a wide range of topics. I have no clue where to begin with those, but am open to any and all suggestions!
@digitalrn Thank you Rick! I've been checking the Pocono Foliage Watch and things are progressing as I thought. Our area is predicted to hit peak color between Oct. 10-16.
So simple, yet I keep looking at it! It's the way the leaves overlap, and that little tear in one leaf. Also like the way the sun shining through the leaves highlights the veins. Fav.
@nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! This one branch has been looking really pretty from the moment it started turning. @eudora Thank you Diane! And thank you so much for the fav!
@pflaume Thank you Lisa! I thought so too. I like the imperfection.

One that I just started looking at is Tom Ang's book: http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Photography-Masterclass-Tom-Ang/dp/1465408568/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1380258139&sr=8-1&keywords=ang+digital+photography
