Leaves on the Steps by olivetreeann

Leaves on the Steps

There seem to be more leaves on the ground than there were last week. Of course that's no surprise but I'm not sure I'm really ready for the cooler weather that's around the corner. Still, Autumn continues to put some lovely pictures on my path. I liked the random way the leaves had fallen on the steps off my deck and decided to turn the shot into an artistic black and white.
Nice. Our trees are almost bare. I should go take some B&Ws of them.

@homeschoolmom Thank you Lisa! It's the time of year to get some lovely silhouettes.

@olivetreeann Ooooh, I never thought about that. Bare trees silhouetted by the sunset would be beautiful. Going to have to work on that one. Thanks for the inspiration.

I love that you chose b/w for this one

It makes it look like a Lino print - ( she said knowledgeably - lol)
October 23rd, 2013
wonderful capture! I really like the composition and the B&W edit.

cool shot, love the grain in this

how sad, it is not autumn anymore.
October 23rd, 2013
Beautiful shot. Perfect in B&W - brings out all the wood grain.

Nice capture...:)

Fallish and good choice in B/W Ann

Cool shot in b & w catching all the textures in the steps. Our pesky huge Sweet Gum tree in the front yard is shedding its leaves like crazy now and will be doing that for several months. Spoils the tropical look :-)

Perfect editing choice Ann, it works really well.

I like the POV and processing in this fine composition.
October 23rd, 2013
This is really nice in B&W.
October 23rd, 2013
Really brings out the textures, great perspective
October 23rd, 2013
Lovely textures come out in the B&W capture :)
October 23rd, 2013
Love all the textures!
October 23rd, 2013
Love your high contrast shots. These really are fun..almost posterized and works so well with the wood, pot and leaves!
October 24th, 2013
Great textures. I am not ready for the colder weather either.

@homeschoolmom Looking forward to those shots!
@bkbinthecity Thanks Brian!
@maggiemae "Ah yes", she agrees, "Lino prints are quite nice and were a favorite art project of mine in my early school days". Thank you very much Maggie!
@pflaume Thanks Lisa!

Neat! I like the interest of the flower pot too.
October 24th, 2013
@archaeofrog Thank you Katie!
October 24th, 2013
Ooooh, I love the textures and bits of organic against the linear stairs.
October 24th, 2013
@olivetreeann Only our lawn man has a leaf blower, so in between times I have to gather ;-)
October 24th, 2013
Fantastic processing! I didn't think b&w would really work for such natural substances - the leaves and wooden steps - but you proved me wrong.
October 24th, 2013
Beautiful textures and processing, I love the result.
October 24th, 2013
It is finally getting cold here in GA. For now. It comes and goes here. I like the gritty feel of this in b and w and the angle!
October 25th, 2013
@kandkids Thanks Karen!
@cimes1 Too bad they don't make a dust-buster size leaf blower for those in-between times!
@kaesebiscuit Thank you Mr. Biscuit! I think it works when there are details- in this case the grain of the wood and the shapes of the leaves. It probably would not work on every picture- but that's the great thing about digital. You can try something and if it doesn't work, you can delete the effect and try something else!
@jesperani Thanks Jennifer!
@espyetta Thank you Marybeth! Somehow GA and cold don't seem to go together!

Love it in black-and-white. Appreciate the grittier texture of the wooden stairs that comes through in the shot. Reminds me of walking up my back porch--can just feel those stairs on my feet.
October 26th, 2013
@gratefulness Thank you Sandi! I was experimenting with this and landed on this effect and immediately knew this was the way to process it.
October 26th, 2013
Great textures and you have captured the feeling of autumn.
October 26th, 2013
Love the processing and tones of this one.

@nicolecampbell @edie

Thank you ladies!

Bev
Nice shot, Ann! Love the processing, too! It gives it an old time feel to it. And it also makes fall a little less sad knowing that snow will be replacing the grass soon! Well done :)
October 27th, 2013
I like the B&W processing. I like the contrasting lines and textures of wood and leaves.
October 27th, 2013
@prttblues Thank you Bev!
@eudora Thank you Diane!
October 28th, 2013
no, not ready for the cold weather either. my old bones have been waiting for that polar shift they've been talking about in science magazines when we would have the equatorial climate. i suppose not in my lifetime.
October 28th, 2013
@summerfield Thanks Vikki! I don't think they ever really get any of those predictions correct. It all depends on who's funding the research.
October 29th, 2013
The lines of the wooden steps and the texture are done nicely. Good one Ann.
