A Face in the Stone

I didn't really come across anything I wanted to take a picture of today, so I'm taking the easy way out and posting another shot from my recent trip to Vermont. This beautiful carving was part of the chapel at Dartmouth. I loved the way the light brought the shape of the cheek bone out.
nice

Many thanks to each and every one of you! I hope to get back to this Chapel some day as I did not realize you could go inside. Apparently there are some beautiful stained glass windows in there. If the carvings on the outside are any indication, I believe this to be true!

You have a good eye of finding interesting subjects.

@bruni Thank you Bruni! I just see them- I guess the key to that is to keep your eyes open. You too see some beautiful things when your out driving or taking a walk.

Nice shot, Ann! Rollins Chapel really proved to be a very photogenic spot! I knew you'd love it! And to think the place was built in 1885 and still looks like it's a new church! You should share some of your shots at Dartmouth College's website. I bet they'd love to see someone else's perspective. Great detail and texture in the stone face. I'm trying to figure out exactly where this was. I never got close up enough to see it. Great eye! Well done, Ann! :)

Beautiful and serene sculpture Ann.

@prttblues Thanks Bev! Let's see...the face was at the spot where the arches met the pillars. I didn't see them until I went up to photograph those shadows although I did see that something was there. By the way, could you email me your address. I made a photo book for you from our trip but I don't know where to send it!
@jackie8 Thank you Jackie! There were some beautiful carvings in this stone.

Nice, it reminds me on the faces in the stone on cathedral in Šibenik..

@cimes1 Thank you Carole! Yes, the lighting was very pretty which was why the face came out looking as good as it did!
@summerfield Thank you Vikki! I do love older building where some artistry has been incorporated into the stonework.
@vesna0210 Thanks Vesna! I'm not sure what the inspiration behind the carvings were, but it's quite possible that the architect was thinking along the lines of a cathedral.
