It was gray and overcast this morning. I did not feel like hunting for another picture in the gray. The sun managed to come out in the afternoon, but the energy to take a quick walk about our yard never came. It didn't really take hold indoors either. I think I have the housebound blues. At any rate, while I was serving dinner, the tongs seemed to present themselves as an interesting subject, but I still couldn't really muster up any creative juices. So you get this ho-hum sort of picture in a very non-exciting composition. But you know, days like this happen and you just have to go through them every once in a while.
I know what you mean about housebound blues...it seems many of us are feeling that way. I do like the structural elements in this shot -- so clean and strong looking.
You are being too critical. The minimalist shot has much to recommend it: the positive/negative space of the composition, the subtle lighting change from bottom to top, the shadows, the weathered curves of the tongs. I like it.
Thank you so much everyone! Looking at it today, it's not so bad after all. So glad you liked it. I did get out a bit today running errands and picking up the mail. It was COLD!! But it did feel good to be out of the house.
