Black and White Book Club 5

I'm continuing my "documentary" style today and although this will never appear on the cover of LIFE magazine, it's a fun record of our most recent snowstorm. It started snowing some time in the early morning and dropped 10 inches of snow on us before 8 AM. After that it turned into icy rain. Poor Jeff has been shoveling it all day. You can get an idea of how deep it was by looking at how far it comes up the legs of the chair.

Shot in color and converted to black and white with a red filter. Gray scale adjusted to lighten the wooded area.
Fantastic documentrary style capture!

Oh yes, it was a mess. I see now where our snow ended up. You got the snow and we got hit with a lot of ice.

Great documentary photo.

At this moment I must admit you guys have more snow then we have. great processing to make the wooded area not so dense looking by brightening it up a bit.

@digitalrn Thanks Rick! We got ice too- on top of the snow! It's still a little slick out there right now.
@bill_fe Thanks Bill!
@bruni Wow Bruni- that's hard to believe! Crazy as it is, we're supposed to get another big one this weekend. I do hope Jeff's back holds up with all that shoveling! Thanks for looking!

Beautiful shot

Wow -- that makes the snow here look a little less intimidating! You look like the snow has cut you off from everyone!
February 6th, 2014
This looks as a natural black and white, winter takes away all colors.
February 6th, 2014
Wouldn't want to be sitting in that chair right now! I hope you stay safe with all that snow and ice around.
February 6th, 2014
nice shot
February 6th, 2014
Nice shot - I wish we had some of that here! Hope you're keeping warm and cosy!

Great chair! :) Must be cool in summer to sit on it & read
February 6th, 2014
cool shot!
February 6th, 2014
Amazing weather you have there. Love the chair covered in snow.
February 6th, 2014
Really lovely, and I do like how you left some definition in those background trees.
February 6th, 2014
Neat shot and processing. I like the way you brightened the woods to give the photo more depth. Interesting to see how much snow you got in one night. The kids here were hoping for more snow & maybe another day off school, but no such luck--only a cold, rather gray morning.

Excellent b & w processing idea and it turned out beautiful! I love that wooded area in the back.
February 6th, 2014
good way to document the snow storm

@kerristephens Thanks Kerri!
@taffy Thanks Taffy! This is the backyard- the street which runs past the front yard is well plowed. But until it is we can have that feeling of isolation that you mentioned.
@yaorenliu Thank you Yao!
@salza Thank you Sally! We're just fine- all shoveled out and as for me, I don't have any pressing matters to leave the house for!
@twr Thanks Timothy!
@alia_801 Thanks Alia! I think Jeff would be happy to send you some so he wouldn't have so much to shovel! And yes, our wood stove keeps us nice and warm.
@axika thanks Alexandra! My favorite seat is the garden swing- out of sight in this picture, but maybe it will show up in Spring.
@kporte Thanks Keith! Haha at 20 degrees it's really cool!
@sangwann Thanks Dione!
@archaeofrog Thank you Katie! It's been interesting to fiddle with the processing.
@eudora Thanks Diane! Our neighborhood kids were happy to have another snow day- but until the icy rain stopped, they mostly stayed inside.
@cimes1 Thank you Carole!
@daisymiller Thank you Daisy!

Bev
Nice shot, Ann! Love it! You can't tell that it's black and white! But you captured the scene so perfectly! And how do you know it won't end up on the cover of a magazine? You never know! Fav! Well done :)
February 7th, 2014
@prttblues Thank you Bev! And thank you for the fav! Haha- maybe not this one- but perhaps the one with the trees and shadows from the 6th.

Great winter shot
February 8th, 2014
It looks like the tree is sitting in the chair, so much snow, I hope you are keeping warm

@bkbinthecity Thank you Brian!
@nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! Yes, no problem in that department- our wood stove is great!
February 9th, 2014
oh, the snow! i hope it doesn't ruin my return as i am really really desperately wanting to sleep in my own bed. but it (the snow) makes for a really nice capture.
February 10th, 2014
@summerfield I'm not sure but you might not have as much of the white stuff in Toronto right now.
February 10th, 2014
Great image.

Another picture featuring your wrought iron chair again. while on vacation I do check the weather forecast of our home town and oh boy, they snowed in again and more to come. Hans just bought a snow blowers just before we left and out neighbor now has fun (I hope) using
it). I'm sure there will be snow middle of this month so Hans can try it out.

@bruni LOL Bruni- maybe this will become a yearly shot in Feb. What does Ann's garden chair look like this year??? I am thinking that we should get one for Jeff. The shoveling has been back breaking for him this year.
