I was sitting at the dining room table today and watching the rain fall while I ate lunch. I had just glanced down to put another bite of food on my fork when I notice some swift movement outside and a "poof" of feathers in the air. That means only one thing- the Red Shouldered Hawk has picked off yet another Mourning Dove. )o:
@summerfield Thanks Vikki! I almost don't want to think about what part this was, but I think they might be breast feathers. @maggiemae Thanks Maggie! I think you may be right- although I am not a movie goer, so I can't confirm it! @bkbinthecity Thanks Brian! @mzzhope Thank you Hope- it definitely sums up the whole thing quite well. @kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @bulldog Thanks Graham! Yes, a very sad story indeed. @neatz Thanks Anita! @sangwann Thank you Dione! @espyetta Thanks Marybeth! Yes, they do, but sometimes I wish they were vegetarians! @digitalrn Thank you Rick! Ah yes- a few seconds behind the actual event, but enough info in this shot to get the gist of it! @nancih Thanks Nanci! Oh poor chickens and kitties! @pflaume Thank you Lisa!
I know how you feel. we had a hawk here a few times catching one of our many mourning doves, there isn't anything left then but the feathers. I like this picture though and was wondering if you could enter this one in the May theme Patterns and Texture. theme pat-tex.
Oh, my goodness! How startling and unsettling that must have felt to witness, and to meditate upon what happened to that little bird while he ate his lunch--he became lunch for someone else!!! What good fortune we have to be at the top of the food chain.
Great textures in your shot. How unsettling to see this cycle of life right in front of your eyes. We have a neighborhood pair of hawks and I get to see this enacted sometimes right in my backyard.
