I organized a photo walk in East Stroudsburg for the Photo Club this evening. We wandered around a city block, taking shots as we went along. It must have been a comical sight to see my six friends with their big lenses and heavy duty tri-pods and me with my little point and shoot! But after all the pictures were done, and we were having a late evening snack at a little pub, they were complaining about aching shoulders and tired hands and I wasn't! Hmmm...do I really want a BIG GIRL camera? Yeah!!
We'd been taking all kinds of shots from the sky to architectural features when I glanced toward the front "lawn" of this old house. It was quite small (we call them postage stamps!) and covered in white pebbles. But up through those pebbles the most delightful plants were growing. This one in particular surprised me with its spindle-like "petals".
I've been poking around trying to learn the identity or our little "conductor" and I think it's Wild Garlic. This particular plant is past its flowering stage. The flowers can be either white or light pink and are star-shaped. Once past blooming they are replaced by ovoid bulblets and those long spindly conductor arms. Wild garlic has an onion-like odor and is edible.
@maggiemae Thank you Maggie! I LOVE your description! How do I fav that?
@ubobohobo Thank you Margaret! I've barely touched the tip of the iceberg with the shots I've posted. But I shall save some for a rainy day as we say here and not overwhelm everyone with all of them! @allie912 Thank you Allison! Ah- perhaps by Chihuly? (o:
What a great shot, Ann. It's so odd looking with those spindly looking petals. The center of it is a lovely hue of red. I wouldn't want a "big girl" camera. I'm pretty happy with my Canon PowerShot. I have all the settings I want on it and I am actually using my manual settings for some things taken throughout the week. You will see why when I get them uploaded! Well done and glad you had fun with your group.
One of the most unusual flowers that I have ever seen. I often go out with my small camera (and have thought about getting a tiny one!) as at times it is just a mission to have a heavy camera and lens with you!

They both looked good to me and if I was there, I'd check them out. The only thing for me though is I'm not sure how far away Indy is from where you are. So here is another place to check things out: http://www.photo-ne.com/biglist/page13.htm
click on your state and all the different clubs will pop up. Then you can choose something closer if it's out there.
I found mine by asking the guy at the camera store. And I have to say I was very "nervous" the first time I went. I was afraid my p & s would be ridiculously simple compared to the other cameras and that people would not be as gracious and accepting as they are here on 365. The members have proved those "fears" to be completely wrong and have been a real encouragement to me. So go for it Carla!!
Indy is over an hour away with tons of traffic and construction. I'm not sure that I'm up for that anxiety. But maybe. Thank you for this info! It's so nice of you to find this. I had no idea....!
@mrssmith203 I just did a quick search. Try that link to the list- there may be some closer to you. Being unfamiliar with the geography I didn't want to list a bunch that were not close to you at all. And I only did Indy because I remember you'd met some other 365ers there.

Thank you so much everyone for the fun comments. It is a cute and quirky little plant and I've amended the commentary above to tell you what it is.
