Rocambole is a term used for garlic which is rich, full-bodied in taste and typically has one set of cloves around a woody stalk. It is easy to peel once the stalk has dried. There are several varieties of Rocambole garlic. If my memory serves me correctly, this is a shot of the Russian Choparsky kind which has been trimmed, washed and is now ready to be used. I wish I could describe the aroma to you!
I'm learning so much about garlic from your farm visit Ann. Thank you so much for your help with the moon shot. I was sure I thanked you for this but now can't find it! Maybe you'll get it twice. Anyway I'm very grateful for both your time and the help. I will try and if i manage a reasonable shot I'll post it!
Thank you Kathy, Kerri, Janice, Nick, Phoebe, Sarah, Alia, Barb, Joyce, Howard, Sally, Nicole, Rick, Anita, Sandy and Kate!!
@thistle I'm glad you're enjoying the garlic lessons! And glad to be of help with the moon shot too. I learned from someone on here and I like to pass it along any chance I get.
@steeler Wow! That could be tricky at times because it's so commonly used in cooking!
@alia_801@kt8ird Check your farmer's markets- that's where you'll find other varieties. The supermarkets generally only sell the (Chinese I think they call it) white kind.
@bruni Thank you Bruni! You should I would think- not in the supermarkets but I know you have a lot of farmer's markets by you and that's where you'll find it. Rocambole is a general term and there are several different varieties. All of them prefer to grow in cooler climates so you will probably find a couple kinds that are grown in your area.
@olivetreeann Other half regularly visits the farmers markets. I think we're only getting Mexican garlic at the moment, but we'll definitely look out for other types when it's in season...
@sangwann Thanks Dione! I am going to go to the market at some point and try some out! @alia_801 I'm not sure what the growing cycle will be for you but you're on top of it I'm sure!
@steeler Howard that's so sad! I love garlic so I cannot imagine life without it!
