I'm combining some of my older shots with newer shots to fill an imaginary 8 piece gallery show this week as I finish out Flash of Red February. I thought about some of my "signature" subjects and of course, rust was at the top of the list! It's hard to convey the beautiful colors of rust in a black and white shot, so instead I emphasized textures in this picture. This old lantern was on display at the meadery I visited with Bill and Vikki last May. The overall picture was a little cluttered and off balance, so I cropped it in tightly and set the subject off to the side. I brought up the overall contrast of the entire shot, but then decreased it in the shadows. I'm pleased with the result and can see my "gallery show" starting to take shape.
Nice shot - definitely captures the rust texture. I'll have to ponder what I'd put in a gallery...
Have you got any challenge ideas for March? I was thinking of copying the 'My favourite things' idea I saw on someone else's project....
Thank you so much everyone! I'm always looking for rust, so this was a natural. I sure wish I could see it on black. I don't know what changed but I can no longer click on the picture and see it that way. I also can't seem to get the pictures smaller to fit within the margins of my computer screen. It's rather frustrating! But I don't know what to do either. Anyway thank you so much for the views, comments and favs. Happy to see this had a brief showing on the PP!
