We went to see our niece Katie in Christmas Carol last Sunday at The Growing Stage theater in Netcong, NJ. The theater has had quite a history beginning as a vaudeville theater, converted to a storage building when a moving company owned it and then back to a theater as it is now. Here's Katie and Jeff after the performance, the marquee and stage and a detail of one the amazing murals that grace the walls depicting two of my favorite childhood characters- Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy.
I love the photo of Jeff and Katie, and the others of the theatre. Sounds like a neat place.
Your photos made me remember a place I had not thought of in years--the Grist Mill Playhouse in Andover, NJ where I volunteered as a teenager. I looked it up; I think it's been torn down and a supermarket built on the site. I'm glad this theatre is still in use!
@cherrymartina Thank you Martina! @nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! @wendyfrost Thank you Wendy! @eudora Thank you Diane! Actually I think the building is still there but it is no longer a theater. At one point there was a little coffee shop in part of it- we went to see a friend play there- but we're not sure what it is now as the coffee shop has since closed as well.
