The Union Army marched across this field but today it hardly resembles a battle ground but for the monument that honors the men who lost their lives at Antietam.
Although the color was very nice, I've decided to process most of my pictures from this historic place in black and white to reflect the era in which the war took place.
@dsp2 Thank you Dinah! @quietpurplehaze Thank you Hazel! @nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! @leestevo Thank you Lee-Ann! @sangwann Thank you Dione! I can't explain the feeling of overwhelming sorrow that one gets when standing there. Jeff said, "This is sacred ground. Every inch is a soldier's grave." The amount of soldiers who were wounded or died is almost inconceivable. @twinsplusone Thank you Sharon! The day had begun with clouds and rain but by the time we got here it had begun to clear. It made for some very compelling sky shots. @thistle Thank you Joyce! @francoise Thank you Francoise! They cooperated in quite a few! @peterday Thank you Peter! @pyrrhula Thank you Ferry! @bruni Thank you Bruni! @skstein Thank you Sandy! That is so nice of you to say! @bkbinthecity Thank you Brian! This monument was put up for the New York Division. Both North and South named their divisions after the States which they came from. @grammyn Thank you Katy! @beyondtessaseyes Thank you Teresa! @randystreat Thank you Kathy! @wendyfrost Thank you Wendy! Funny you should mention the Rule of Thirds. I've decided to do one of those 52 week photography challenges and the first assignment is to "tell a story using the Rule of Thirds"! @maggiemae Thank you Maggie! I used my wide-angle lens for this photo so it really captures the wide-open feel of the field.
@leggzy Thank you Leggzy! @annied Thanks Annie! All the shots of this day look very nice in color, but I just can't seem to print them that way. @sarasdadandmom Thank you Terry!
I used my wide-angle lens for this shot. I really like how it pulls a large amount of space into the picture frame. That's probably what gives this scene its drama.
