@louannwarren Yes, cement! I'm not really sure why it was chosen as the building material- no hurricanes around here for the most part! There is a video apparently at the inn which tells about its history but I didn't take the time to see it that day. We may go back there in the Spring/Summer and I'll see it then.
The wall had been painted several times over the years and when the current owners purchased the building and began restoring it, they stripped away the paint with the intention of giving it a fresh coat, but discovered the original cement actually had this mottled look so they decided to keep it instead of repainting. It was a good call- the colors are very soft and it almost looks like modern wallpaper this way.
