September 26- Old

This thing is really old! Do you know what it is? We do now that Miss Ann told us. Take a guess...
Like your processing here - have no clue though.

No idea what it is, but love the processing and the monotone tones.

Beautifully processed with wonderful tones, leaves me pretty clueless.

nope! tell us!

It must be linked to the railway? I can imagine it attached to something vaguely rail related. Lovely vintage feel to this image.

for a moment I thought it was a grave stone!!

I'm thinking a bottle opener? Terrific vintage feel to the photo to enhance the vintage subject!

No - but it looks like something very old and interesting... :)

I wish I knew! It looks like something you turn? Or step on? Your sepia editing is on point. I hope you'll let us know the answer soon...

@milaniet @shutterbug49 @ludwigsdiana @onewing @koalagardens @jamibann @pusspup @grammyn @mittens @ninaganci @wendyfrost @robz @catcarter19 @pyrrhula

Thank you Milanie, Debbie, Diana, Babs, Katrina, Issi, Wylie, Katy, Marilyn, Nina, Wendy, Rob, Cat and Ferry!

Jeff brought home two of these for me. What you can't see is a long piece which comes out the back to attach it to... a roof. They're called snow guards and they are installed to deter ice or snow from melting too quickly and sliding off the roof. I'm going to be cleaning them up a bit, putting some felt on the bottom and using them as book ends in my office.

Here's what it looks like in action.

The roof outside my last work space had a slate roof and iron things in it. I thought they were to keep ice from building up on the roof, as it was pretty steep and the snow would occasionally slide off when the dark roof heated up in the sun.

Nice vintage processing

@randystreat I think they use them more for ice in New England too. But after searching the internet for the name of them I finally found one site that called them snow guards so that's what I'll call them from now on (or until a roofer corrects me!). Thanks Kathy!

You're welcome.

@olivetreeann Aha! I need some of those, not for bookends, but for snow!

Bri
I wouldn't have known either, great processing

@bybri Thank you Bri! They were a fairly predominant fixture on roofs for a long time. You don't see them as much now.
