Weather Man by olivetreeann

Weather Man

From Milo's encounter with the Whether Man:

"Oh no, " said the little man, "I'm the Whether Man, not the Weather Man, for after all it's more important to know whether there will be weatehr than what the weather will be." And with that he released a dozen balloons that sailed off into the sky. "Must see which way the wind is blowing, " he said, chuckling over his little joke and watching them disappear in all directons..

You must be enjoying this little "project!" You are really getting into it . . nice play on words! I have never taken a pic of our tv screen . must try it sometime!

@mrssmith Thank you Carla- it's always been a favorite of mine because I like all the play on words the author does.
@httpgeffed Thank you Colleen!
@digitalrn Thank you Rick. I think 365 is a gathering place of creative minds.
@karenann Thank you Karenann. I have to give kudos to Alia for coming up with this challenge. Of course, it's critical to pick a book that will give you some fun words to play with. Taking a shot of the tv is tricky. I'm not sure what does it (gamma rays or microwaves or something like that) but you will see through the camera lens a black band that scrolls down the screen. Our eyes don't pick it up, but something about the way light moves through the camera lens causes the camera to see it. So when you snap the picture, you have to watch for where the band is. On this shot- it's that dark part under the "Tropical Update". The other glitch is that it's very hard to focus on the screen, so a lot of them come out blurry. So, in order to conquer those two obstacles, first I used the posterize effect after sharpening the picture. That caused the "tropical update" to disappear completely, so as a second edit, I added the text to replace what had disappeared. All that just to get a shot of the weather man- or as in this case the weather people! Phew!!

Now THAT'S a lot of work!! Wow, Ann. You have really mastered alot of these techniques. You are seriously into this project. I'd better "shape up!" lol

Hehe - great idea, and nicely done! (The TV works by shooting electrons at a coating on the inside of the TV screen. The electron gun moves very quickly over the screen - too fast for our eyes to detect, but because the camera works more quickly than our eyes do, it can capture the region where the glow on the screen has faded, before the next round of electrons hit).

@karenann (o: lol Karenann- it's either mastering the technique or OCD, I'm not sure which! And Alia, who commented after you, explains (better than I did) the difference between your eye and the camera. She is the brains behind this challenge (applause, applause).

@alia_801 Thank you Alia! I knew it was something like that, but I have never been good at remembering the details of scientific explanations! I'll probably remember it now though- you explained it so well!!
