The Phantom Tollbooth by olivetreeann

The Phantom Tollbooth

Today was my first blank page, so I had a "freebie" but being the dedicated challengee that I am, I decided I would stick to the book and take a photo of something appropraite. And honestly, how could I not post a photo of a tollbooth at some point in this challenge?! Thankfully, I have not one but two options to shoot on this subject: the tollbooth at the Delaware Water Gap Bridge, or the tollbooth at the state park. I'm not sure when the state put these tollbooths up, but any work related vehicle must stop here and pay to use the road that runs through the protected land. They look a bit dated, but that fit the book perfectly.

What would you do if one of these contraptions showed up at your house one day? Would you be suspicious? Would it scare or confuse you? Would you be excited? Would you ignore it? Would you be curious enough to set it up and drive through? Although this is a story book, it speaks a lot about life. For Milo (who had some time on his hands) it was the perfect escape from boredom. What would it be for you?
This does fit the book perfectly. I would set it up and drive through it...on my way to somewhere.

Great shot - looks like (actually really is) missing half the toll house.

You'd have to go through it. Couldn't resist.

So you are doing the book challenge? the one I am doing with the first page pick a word in line one, econd day, turn to page 2 and pick a word from line 2, etc? did not realize that. It has been almost 40 years since I read this book...I have it in my classroom....need to read it again. LOVE The photo! Wow. Perfect for the book!

@mrssmith Thanks Carla- yes, I'd go through it too- I love to travel!
@michaelelliott Thanks Michael- it's built that way to accomodate trucks.
@digitalrn Thanks Rick- yes, adventure calls!
@kerristephens Thanks Kerri!
@httpgeffed Thanks Colleen!
@espyetta Thanks MaryBeth- yes that's the one I'm doing, but I found I had to go page to page- it worked for some of the sentences, but after a while I was just getting and, but, if and words like that. So I modified it a bit. Instead of word for word, line after line, I randomly picked the first word my eyes landed on. That worked out much better. This was a favorite book of my boys and I have always appreciated the author's quirky sense of humor, so it was a good choice all around!

Interesting tollbooth! It does look like part of it is missing! You're taking your challenge very seriously too :)

This is great.

@steeler Thanks Howard!
@alia_801 Thanks Alia- yes, it's set up that way for the big trucks that come through- not sure what the design advantage is, but that's what it's for. Seriously- this is total OCD! Actually, I like the additional idea of making the pictures go with the story- that's just the way my brain works. And who knows- maybe my grandchildren will read this book one day and see how I put it together in pictures. They'll probably say, "my grandmother was nuts!" haha! (laughing at myself but enjoying it all the way!)
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole!
