This picture was actually taken on April 6th, but I shot it on Kodak color film (ISO 400) with my Yashica FX3 35mm camera. I'm happy to be taking pictures with it again. The subtitle of this shot should be "Ann finally gets busted while shooting photos for 365". Jeff and I had pulled over so that I could take a few shots, but there was some yellow tape roped across the drive way. Not really thinking, I stepped under the tape and proceeded to walk down the drive way to capture the barn from a better vantage point. I'd just taken two shots and was about to go a little closer when I heard Jeff call out my name. A state park policeman had stopped to ask us to leave because this barn was a crime scene and he didn't want me going in! Of course, I was not going to go in. I am not in the habit of entering old barns (you never know what's in there or the condition of the floor). I just shoot them from the outside, but he had no way of knowing that. Thankfully he didn't rip out my film or place hand cuffs on me for taking contraband photos! And once we apologized for inadvertently trespassing he drove off without looking back to even see if we left. I, on the other hand, felt I had just gone through some sort of 365 rite of passage! And from now on I will pay more attention to the words on the yellow tape.
You are now worthy of being called a "true" 365er! I've earned my badge several times already .. but never at a crime scene! lol When you get caught you really do it big, Ann. Wonderful capture and beautiful lighting. But a little eerie now that I know the whole story!! :)
@karenann My goodness Karenann- several times? You rebel you! @anazad511 Thanks Ana. I really hadn't planned to go much further- just close enough to do some close-ups, but that will have to wait for another day and time! @juleswoome lol Julie- we figured it had to be drug related. These abandoned buildings are great places for deals and parties. And since it's public land with no fees, anybody can hang out there and go undetected if they're smart. The policeman didn't seem to be in a panic, so it makes me think that it was not a violent type of crime. @potsbypam Thanks Pam! @sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry- I knew you'd be proud of me!
Now you will have to check your newspaper to get the scoop on the crime. A great photojournalist is not discouraged by a little crime tape or a few cops!
@kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @woot Thanks Davide. Yes, the colors- that is the beauty of film vs. the convenience of digital. @jeancarl lol JeanCarl! In my defense, it was twisted so at first I didn't really think about reading the words. (o: @allie912 Thanks Allison. I don't know if I'll ever find out. Worthington State Park is in New Jersey- just the other side of the Delaware from us. I don't know how long ago this became a crime scene and I'm not sure if I even know what county we were in. Who knows- maybe it will show up on Unsolved Mysteries someday. lol But I don't think I fall in to the category of Photojournalist. However it could be said that I am akin to those guys on PhotoXplorers- the ones who go on photo shoots in old abandoned factories and big buildings like that. Sometimes they walk past the yellow tape or Do Not Enter sign!
@mrssmith Thanks Carla- I honestly don't think it was a serious crime judging from the fellow's low key reaction. More than likely they caught a drug dealer here- and there was probably money involved, fingerprints and stuff like that. They just don't want the evidence disturbed. I think if it was more serious he would have been more upset and remonstrative. But I was happy I got this shot.
awesome, girlfriend, awesome! a policeman no less. i want to go there and take photos, too! and you have the photos to show for it! very nice colours and lovely sunlight. great shot!
@httpgeffed Thanks Colleen! It will come sooner than you think! @kimmistephens Thanks Kimmi! @summerfield Thanks Vikki! haha- totally out of character for me!
LOL ... funny story. You got busted and by the police no less!!! When you're gonna get caught, you might as well do it big!!! LOL ... Great pic of the crime scene!
@sangwann Thank you Dione! @digitalrn Thank you Rick! I have missed that camera. And then back in February or March I saw that someone was starting a "film challenge" for the year. I knew I didn't want to do film for an entire year, but occasionally I pull it out and take it on my barn shoots. You just can't match the color of film in digital. @nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! @prttblues Thanks Bev! And not only did I do it big, I involved an innocent man!
A crime scene! I wonder what happened there? Spooky! I hate getting busted taking photos! The whole world needs to understand we need to document our lives daily! LOL! Love the barn photo!
@deniseinindy Thank you Denise! I think it was a drug related crime- probably dealing or partying. I think if it was more serious, the policeman would have been more stern and given me a stronger warning. As it was, he drove off without even making sure we left! So that makes me think it wasn't all that bad, but perhaps recent and still under investigation.
