Thank you all for the comments and loving thoughts. We've firmed up some of the service details and are making headway with arrangements. As glad as I am to be with family, I am also looking forward to going home and sleeping in my own bed!
I'm back home and slowly getting organized. I can't thank you all enough for the caring thoughts and "hugs" you've all sent my way during this time. They were a great comfort! And Rich- that's the verse my niece chose for my father's memorial service- a very fitting reminder.
I've tried twice today to write a commentary on this picture and both times it did not save! I guess it's just not meant to be. For those of you who are wondering who this might be the base of the statue identified him as Carlo Abate, artist, friend and mentor. He was born in Milan, Italy in and died in Barre, Vt. in 1944. It also further stated "In honor of all Italian-Americans whose achievements have enriched the social, cultural and civic vitality of this city (Barre) region, and state. Erected by their descendants and friends- 1985.
Carlo built his legacy with a hammer and a chisel. My father built his legacy with a family. Of course, my two previous musings were much more eloquent than that, but I don't think I can remember them anymore!!
Interesting commentary in your note above and great photo of the tribute to him. Also, I like how you compared the legacies. How old was your dad? Mine died at 84 in 1991 and I still miss him. He pointed to the sky on his death bed and smiled.
@cimes1 Thank you Carole- Dad was 87 and would have turned 88 in Nov. The pointing gesture is awesome and like my father's last words, a wonderful form of comfort!
(Commentary to follow on another day!)
