It's a beautiful building and so different from ours. We had a 365 meet up here in Indy on Saturday and toured our State Capitol Building. I got some great pictures inside, but nothing outside. Duh. This one is very different than ours, but they both have the traditional dome.
@lisjam1 Thanks Lisa- I've seen some of the pics from your meet-up and they look great! I was taking a few moments in downtown Montpelier to catch some night shots and since it's a city of only a few blocks, it's not hard to get the grander buildings. The nice thing about a night shot is that the lawn is clear. In the daytime you never know what you're going to see there! @eudora Thanks Diane! I used the Advanced HDR effect in iPiccy on this one. I liked how it made it look like an old picture postcard. @sarasdadandmom Thank you Terry! @groovygirlrn Thank you Sheri!
My granddaughter is going to Vermont on a mission project this summer with her youth group at church....I may have already said this? Anyway, I'll share some of your photos with her. This is just beautiful!!
@rhubbard Thank you Rich! I used the Advanced HDR in iPiccy for this one. I wanted to give it that old-fashioned post card effect. @digitalrn Thank you Rick! I took this just after dusk and was concerned it would be a little grainy and fuzzy since I wasn't using a tripod (don't have one for the p & s), but it came out quite nicely and I liked the idea of turning it into an "old postcard" format. @sangwann Thanks Dione! (see comment to Rich about the processing)
@juleswoome thanks Julie! @cimes1 thank you Carole- I think you did but that's ok! Do you know what area she will be in? Montpelier is in what they call "central" Vermont- although it's fairly northern as well. I would think they might visit the capitol. Even in the daytime it's an impressive building. You can see the dome from many approaches to the "city". And the sun reflecting off the gold is quite pretty. I say "city" because it's not really the size of what we'd naturally think of a city- but it does have most of the elements of one (with the exception of the trash)!
I have never ventured to Montpelier after dark. You make our state capitol building look so beautiful! You should submit this to our New England magazine for their photo competition... This would surely win! This is absolutely lovely! Well done you!
@prttblues Thanks Bev- is that competition going on now? I might just do that. Although, I still have to straighten it a bit. It's driving me crazy that I didn't get it perfectly straight the first time around!
It's been a while since I was there. Since my father died, I don't have as much of a reason to go. But I'll be up there this coming year for my niece's wedding.

Thanks Pam and Brian! It's a very pretty building. One of these times I'll have to go inside too!
