Moss Glen Falls cascades more than 30 feet into a large pool to create this unique land form. The falls tumble over a rock ledge and boulders that are part of Hazen's Notch Formation, made of schist with black graphite and pyrite. The water flows from the Deer Hollow Brook watershed, originating more than two miles above the falls in the Green Mountain National Forest.
(I'm really not that smart- I photographed the placard by the falls so I could remember all this stuff!)
Beautiful waterfalls, lovely capture. I love to venture to see falls, haven't quite got round all the ones in Tassie yet. This image makes me want to go looking for one
This is so beautiful and love the cascade of water movement ... you did a fantastic pov on this one, Ann. I have yet to achieve a decent "waterfall" capture ...love yours here.
@kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @salza Thank you Sally! @groovygirlrn Thank you Sheri! @wenbow Thank you Wendy! I'm glad this inspires you to go on an adventure! @karenann Thank you Karenann! I was sort of a "bad" girl to get this shot- went off the path when the sign said not to. But I knew not to get too close! And this really was the best vantage point. @eudora Thanks Diane! @dmariewms Thanks Marie. I decided to use the iPiccy advanced HDR on this. At first I was going to post it sooc, but I really liked the 3D effect that the HDR gave it. It brought out more of the colors the way I saw it too. @digitalrn Thank you Rick! These falls are awesome. Believe it or not the road is right behind me! I'll never forget our first trip up to Vermont passing these falls and practically skidding to a stop! We later discovered a slightly shorter route and hadn't been by them in years. But that road was damaged in Hurricane Irene and is still under massive construction so we went home the "old" way and I told Jeff we had to stop at the falls! It was a hot day, but so cool and lovely by the water. It was hard to leave!
Photography always makes me break rules when normally I am a very law abiding person. My husband gets a little frustrated with me... especially when I lean way over on bridges or get too close to alligators. He like to tell that story a lot. :) Love the moss on the rocks.
This is beautiful, Ann. Where is Moss Glens Falls? My dad took us to the Finger Lakes when I was a teen and there were a lot of pretty falls there including Watkins Glen. I've ALWAYS been fascinated by water falls and there are none here in Central Florida only fake ones at the theme parks ;-) Your shot could very well be on a postcard....lovely!
@filsie65 Thank you Phil! @sangwann Thank you Dione! @cimes1 Thank you Carole! Moss Glen Falls is in the Granville Reservation near Granville, Vermont. If your granddaughter ends up in the Sugarbush area she will very close to them. And yes, you do tend to need mountains in order to get a waterfall, and mountains are not easy to find in Florida! @sanera Thanks Samantha! @bruni lol Bruni- it's a clever trick I guess! When I went to Israel and Greece I had almost as many pictures of the plaques as I did the places we visited!
