Psycho by olivetreeann

Psycho

Oh my! Here is a picture I never would have imagined myself posting since I started this project. And initially I wasn't intending to create a picture for this movie because quite frankly, I don't like horror pictures at all! I can't and won't watch them! However in my undergrad days when I studied theater arts and drama, this film was always mentioned as one of Hitchcock's masterpieces. And although I've never seen it, I do know there are some classic horror moments in the cinematic storyline. I was thinking about them the other day (or what I could remember about them) and got to wondering, "I wonder if I took a shot of the shower nozzle and a picture of me screaming (of course I only pretended to scream!) and put them together if I could pull off something for Psycho?" That's usually all it takes to get me experimenting. Now that I've done it, I can honestly say this picture scares me! But it certainly did take me out of my photographic box!
Cool shot

I think you did well and probably had a lot of fun on the way! I'm not scared because there is no music!

I am with you, not into the horrors. This is very cool, great work

@digitalrn lol Rick- he's got a few on the list that are even scarier than Psycho- but I've had my fill of scary processing!
@groovygirlrn Thanks Sheri!
@summerfield Thanks Vikki!
@wenbow Thanks Wendy!

Thank you all- this shot is certainly not what I generally like to photograph or do- but I was glad to have tried something very different for me.

Thank you Colleen!
Thank you Kimmi!
Thank you Dione!

I appreciate the positive comments. I can't say I really like this one myself! I can't even say I like it at all!

Very creative and excellent experimentation! Good for you.

@mrssmith Thanks Carla! I was really hesitant about posting this- to me it's kind of gory and I don't really like it. But I promised I'd do at least 10 of these movies and this one moves me closer to that goal. I was glad to experiment, but everything about horror movies goes against my grain and I don't like glorifying them. Nonetheless, I posted it and I''m finding people to be gracious about commenting on it. But if someone said it was a terrible picture and didn't like the content, I'd have to agree!

Oh this is wicked! You did a fantastic job with this, Ann! I love it! I can imagine Norman standing around with the knife!!!
July 5th, 2012
@prttblues Thanks Bev! Well, I'm glad you like it. I'm not crazy about it at all. The more I look at it, the gorier (is that a word?) it seems. But I did like the fact that it made me experiment with layering pictures and some other processing tricks.

Great interpretation of the movie title. The photo invokes a feeling of terror.
July 6th, 2012
@rhubbard Thanks Rich! Well, I guess that feeling of terror works for the movie- but I must say it's hard for me to post something like this- I'm so not into horror movies!

As long as I don't hear the music I can imagine you are just singing in a kool aid shower :) Just kidding... I think you did a good job on this photo and had fun too. I only like some horror films as most of them I find to be kind of silly.

@potsbypam Thanks Pam! I was very uncomfortable posting this- I really don't like these movies at all- at least the current form of them. Too bloody, gory and they just seem to glorify evil. But Hitchcock I guess is more of what is now called "suspense"- less bloody, more scary. I ended up posting this just because the processing steps to get it were new to me and I enjoyed what I learned from it. But on the whole, this picture still scares me!

Wow! This is amazing! And that is you!? You look super young, btw. You've never seen Psycho?wow. It is a classic. This pic captures the essence of it. Super work here!
July 8th, 2012
@espyetta Thanks MaryBeth. No, I've only seen clips of small pieces- that's good enough for me! Yes, that's me faking a scream, but the other layers probably make you think I'm younger. But thank you for that lovely comment!!!!

Very psycho! I'm like that as well, don't do the horror movies and I've never seen this either. I think you did excellent for a film shot and all that I've heard about this movie. A movie cover for sure :-)
