The Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge (a. k. a. Zakim Bridge) is a cable-stayed bridge across the Charles River. It replaced another that was built in the 1950's and it's the world's widest cable-stayed bridge with 8 lanes on the main portion of the bridge and 2 cantilevered lanes outside the cables (10 lanes in all). The Zakim Bridge connects several major highways, a tunnel, and an elevated highway. When the bridge and supporting infrastructure was under construction, it became known as "The Big Dig" due to the fact it was the largest highway project in the United States at the time. It was completed in December of 2003. I took this quick snap of the bridge as we drove Dianne's son to the airport our second day in Boston.
I have yet to get a photo of the Zakim! You see it in all the skyline shots of Boston, but I'm still trying to find a good position to get in the whole bridge!
I love this bridge! I've always wanted to take a picture of it myself whenever I go there, but being on the highway at 65 to 85 mph isn't a good idea! Great shot, great POV! Well done!
