It was hard to choose just one picture to post for the question of the day on August 14th. So I decided to put a collage together too. Take note of the little hitch hiker on my shoulder. He stayed there for almost 25 minutes and had no intention of leaving me!
Was this at the Butterfly Place in Westboro or at the Museum of Science? No matter where it was, you managed to get some great shots! I've only been to the one at the museum, but I loved that one - butterflies everywhere!
I've been to butterfly gardens and I know the workers check the visitors carefully to keep hitchhikers from leaving the premises. You have a remarkable display here. So many beautiful species. A collage is the perfect solution.
@kerristephens Thanks Kerri! @maggiemae Thanks Maggie! @mrssmith Thanks Carla! It was!! I got some adorable shots of some kids with them on their hands, but promised the parents I would not post the shots on the internet. The butterflies were really everywhere! @sparkleplenty1 This is the one at the Museum of Science Joyce. What a great place! Dianne and I felt this was one of the highlights of our trip. And yes, they were everywhere!! @allie912 Thanks Allison! Yes, they had both mirrors and staff check us out for passengers before we left the room. They didn't want us to take the butterflies off ourselves because the legs are so fragile. @httpgeffed Thank you Colleen! @wenbow Thank you Wendy! @daisy Thanks Kathryn! @lyno Thanks Lyn! @sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry!
beautiful montage of the butterfly garden - i especially like the blue wings and the black butterfly on the red flowers. Great to see the shot of the hitch-hiker on your shoulder. He obviously took a shine to you.
There's nothing like missing a week and coming home to a busy week. I thank you all so much for your patience as I slowly catch up on viewing your photos!
that's a lot of butterflies! we have a butterfly santuary but it is in niagara-on-the-lake. apparently there's one near me but i've not seen one butterfly in there at all. in the old country it is believed that a butterfly that lands on you is possessed by the soul of a recently departed loved one; they're trying to say they are in a peaceful place and that you should no longer mourn for them but go on with your life. it's a feel-good belief, so why not?
@summerfield Well, it certainly ties into Christians who use the butterfly as a symbol of resurrection and new life. We don't see death as an end, but the beginning of a new life in glory. If my little hitchhiker came to remind me that my father is in a better place, he was only reminding me that the symbol I see in him is true. Great thought!
