Hurricane Sandy Day 7 by olivetreeann

Hurricane Sandy Day 7

The day after Sandy hit our neighbor had called the power company to see if they had any idea when power might be restored. They told him Monday the 5th, but wouldn't guarantee it. That was a hard pill to swallow! We'd gotten the power back only 2 1/2 days after Irene. So we hunkered down and got ready for the long haul. On Monday the 5th I left the house to go clean Judy's and on a whim I flipped on the outdoor light. I hoped to come home and see it on, but was trying very hard not to get my hopes up! What a joy to pull into the driveway later that day and see this! The first thing I did after plugging in the refrigerator was take a LONG HOT shower!!

Please do not feel obligated to respond to this massive upload. I will once again be off the site for a few days and I'm trying to get caught up so that I can fall behind once more!
Wow!!

We went 13 days without power after Isabel. For Irene we were under mandatory evacuation (we went to Staunton), but had power within 5 days. Sandy practically missed us - just a bit of a storm surge, but minimal property damage.

Great shot! I love how you showed the light in color and the rest in black and white. Well done!

Great use of selective colour to celebrate the power being back on :)

That happened at my mom's house back in 2004 when we experienced Charlie, Jeanne and Francis. Her power was off for a few days and she stayed with us. I went back to her house to gather more things to bring back to our house and saw the outdoor light on & was ecstatic to say the least. Love how you combined the lighting here with the b & w.

My goodness! How did I miss all these wonderful comments? It's true I've been playing catch up ever since the power came back on- but I must apologize for taking so long to say thanks! My life does seem to be heading back to "normal" so I should start catching up with some of you soon. Thanks again for your great support- I really can't tell you how much it means to me!

How wonderful. I think it's a natural instinct to celebrate light, and this is no less :)

@filsie65 After 7 days without it, I was definitely celebrating. And yet there are still some on the coast still without. I can't imagine how they must feel. At the same time, I know the workers are going gangbusters to get the job done. The East Coast was definitely not prepared for this storm. We've learned a great lesson.
