I'm thankful for this man-made treasure; a ceramic coil pot made by my son Christopher in high school art class. But here's the twist- he's the one who went on to be a soccer coach, not the artist!
@digitalrn Yes Rick- I'm sure we'd have rival amounts of these treasures! @maggiemae Thanks Maggie! Neither of my sons were into academics but they didn't mind classes as long as they were interested. But Christopher had a knack for taking classes for the credit and because it was "easy". To him, art was an easy elective because there was no homework! @salza Thanks Sally! @pandorasecho Thanks Dixie. Well, I never chose a lot of things for the boys. One, we didn't have the money to follow every little whim they came up with. Two, I wasn't interested in running around like a crazy taxi service like many other moms, and three, I figured if they chose it, they'd follow through on it which they always did. So, very early on, they were both doing things they still do to this day. As I wrote to Maggie, Christopher chose art as an elective because there was no homework- simple as that! He did that in college too- he took Water Aerobics just because there was no final! That was an expensive 3 credits! @filsie65 Thanks Phil! I hear you on the "throwing things away". I've got a few projects that have not survived well in their 30+ years of existence but because "the boys" made them, they are still with me! @sangwann Thanks Dione- yes, football (more accurately named than our American version). He was never really "artistic"- that was his brother's department. He took art because there was no homework! But he did produce some nice pieces which I still have. But soccer was on his mind in 2nd grade and stuck with him. He would constantly ask the principal when the school was going to have a soccer team- in 2nd grade! lol We don't know where the drive and passion for it came from. But it wasn't until we had moved and he entered 6th grade that he finally got to play. And there was no stopping him after that! He now coaches a division 3 college team and will probably head to a division 1 school in a year or two. He also has plans to receive some training as a coach in Europe at some point but I'm not sure which country it is or the name of the program. His first coach was Italian (played a bit for Milan) and the trainer he had for years was from Germany- played for Germany with the fellow who now coaches the German National team- and played on the NY Cosmos with Pele. Just a short history for you there!
Isn't that how it always go? They never go into the career you think they will? This is great that you still have and use it too! Nice shot and nice coil pot! Well done!
@prttblues Thanks Bev- no, this one did go into the career he chose. And so did the other (sort of!). Christopher wanted to play soccer in 2nd grade- and now he's a soccer coach. He took art because it had no homework! @bobfoto hahahahahahahaha! @tara11 Thanks Tara!
@olivetreeann I took art because I wanted to go into it for a career but then I liked accounting so I went and did that instead. Never worked in the field even though I have the degree! LOL
@vposey Thanks Vickie! No, he's the soccer player and that's where his passion and talent lie. It's the older one who's truly artistic and he has a unique way of bringing it into his line of work, which is masonry. I'm proud of them both- mostly because they are fine young men.
