Thankful 4 Dreams by olivetreeann

Thankful 4 Dreams

I'm temporarily using a Nikon a friend gave me last year while I'm waiting for the camera card I ordered. It's a very nice camera but there are some things I like about my Canon better so I often use it instead. This camera is not as easy to operate but I think it's more me than it is the camera!

Anyway- enough of that! One of my dreams has me outfitted with a better camera anyway and if I can't learn how to use the Nikon, who says I'll be able to use a better camera when said dream comes true. Better to get some practice in now!

I had hoped to include my grandfather's picture in this photo, but I just didn't like how those pictures came out so I decided to post this one, rather than pull everything back out so that I could set the picture up again. The items here represent my Scottish heritage- the ribbon is made of Hamilton plaid (that is my maiden name) and the shell and stone were a gift from a friend of mine who had traveled to Scotland and brought them back for me. Next to the above camera, I have always dreamed of going to the countries of my ancestry. After Dad's death, I narrowed that down to Scotland as I realize I may have only one shot left to go abroad again. Scotland is the first on my list. There is something very deep inside of me that calls me to go there and I can't explain it, but I know I must go!

I don't know if these dreams will come true, but I sure hope they do!
:) Great shot

I understand this completely being a Ferguson, myself! We did get to Scotland one time - and the visit was far too short, but I loved looking for the tartan and finding the old graveyards for the clan. . .I hope your dream comes true, Ann!

I know exactly how you feel! I'm a McGuire and I would LOVE to see Ireland before I draw my last breath. It has been a dream of mine since I was a teenager. Let's keep on dreaming, Ann, and maybe we'll get there! :)))

Nah it isn't you Canon is just easier to operate. ;)
Scotland, Ireland and Wales are all on my bucket list. But it is hard to get away for more then 2 weeks it seems. Hope you get there soon!

I sure hope you get to follow your dream. A friend went to Scotland and brought me a little sterling silver thistle pin. I will rub it for luck to help your wish come true.

I have a Hamilton kilt with the tartan only its the hunting one. My sister had the court tartan! Lovely to see it in this light!

Gorgeous shot and composition, Anne. I have been on 3 vacations to Scotland and the Highlands and each vacation was a marvel.

Well good you have a replacement. That is the main reason I have not taken my camera in for a cleaning. One of thee days I will need to find a way around it.

Awesome!! Love it!!

Really nice idea to focus on your dreams. I love the tartan plaids.

Yes! Go! Scotland is just beautiful... one of my favourite places. (And only 6 hours from Bedfordshire by car, one hour by plane...!)

The Nikon seems to take a brasher photo than your Canon, but it looks pretty good. Scotland definitely won't disappoint.

Beautiful, warm shot. Great plaid. My family plaid is green.

I love this, I'd love to go. My Great-Grandma on my Mom's mom's side was from Clan McPherson.

Great way to portray your dream. Mine is a little less expensive than yours - I want to go back to the plains of Nebraska on a sunny fall day when everything is blue and gold. I can't portray it in a picture until I'm actually there!

What a great shot and great write up. I hope you are able to make it to Scotland. My wish is to travel to London and soon but I know that it is only a wish/dream that will never come true... But for you, I'm sure you will be able to go to Scotland, the land of your ancestors. I really like how this shot came out!

@bkbinthecity thank you Brian!
@thendrix58 thank you Terry! Yes, dreams are good things to hold on to!
@cortens thank you Julie for that vote of confidence! I think it might be a little of both. The Nikon was a gift from a friend who wasn't using it. It did come in handy, but I definitely don't like it as much as my Canon- and I never thought I'd be saying that about my little point and shoot!
@allie912 thanks Allison!
@maggiemae thanks Maggie- I used to have a wool skirt as a girl with Hamilton plaid. I honestly don't remember it looking like this bow! But maybe that's why- one plaid for hunting and one for court- hmmm... we'll I guess I'll find out if I ever get to Scotland!
@sangwann thanks Dione!
@digitalrn thanks Rick- it's ok for a replacement but I wouldn't use it all of the time!
@picturegirl92 thank you Abigail!
@cimes1 thank you Carole!
@filsie65 thanks Phil- believe me, if it becomes possible, I will! I've been seriously considering booking it myself too- no tours- that way I can really research my family tree and all. Thankfully I have all you great 365 friends to give me advice if and when I can actually come- I would definitely pop over to see you if you wanted me to!
@automaticslim I agree Andy. Even though this camera was a gift, I'm not thrilled with it. As you can see, the camera did not want to focus on the shells or most of the ribbon. My Canon would not have given me that trouble! But my new card has arrived and I am back shooting with it again. Now I have a massive upload to do so I can get caught up and finish out my second year on time! Thanks for the observation- it's absolutely correct!
@daisy thanks Kathryn!
@pandorasecho thanks Dixie! Now that would be a wonderful 365 meet and greet- on the bonnie shores of Scotland!!
@dmariewms thanks Marie! I have driven through Nebraska and I have seen that! It is truly beautiful!
@prttblues thanks Bev! There must be a way for you to get there. We will have to think about this...
