On a Brisk Winter's Night

I didn't have a lot of time to take photos today and the ones I shot, I didn't like. I discovered a deer at the bird feeder this afternoon, but I was uploading pictures at the time so I used my 35mm for those pictures and won't get to see them until the roll is used up! So I'm relying on a shot I took a few nights ago. I upped the exposure a bit and burned some of the tree limbs in, but the little white dots are not imperfections, they're snowflakes reflecting the flash. I'm not sure what caused the cloud-like "apparition" in the middle of the picture. It's not a cloud because it's clearly in front of the trees. It's not my breath in the cold because as you can see it was snowing, so the air temp had warmed up some. My only guess is that it could be steam from the dryer vent. I think I was doing laundry that night, but I don't remember for sure! Cue music from the Twilight Zone now...
Wonderful shot. Apparition, galaxy, or dryer steam -- it matters not!

I love the swathes of tiny white dots! As well as the strong lines of the branches as they enter the picture!

@dakotaburns Thanks Donald! It's a quirky shot for sure.
@maggiemae Thanks Maggie! Everything but the lower right hand corner was burned in.

Actually looks like it could be a diagnostic study of veins and arteries

What a wonderful accident. Looks so mysterious but not in a frightening way... more dreamy to me.

Very cool shot! I love the effect of whatever it is that white mist is! I think I see Rod Serling hiding in the shadows!! Cool processing! Well done, Ann! :)

@cimes1 @sangwann @henrir @daisy @prttblues

Thank you Carole, Dione, Henri, Kathryn and Bev. Well, the mystery has been solved. It is definitely steam from the dryer as we had similar conditions last night and I was doing the laundry (we get an energy break if we do our laundry then) and went out to a get a piece of wood and there it was- my ghostly apparition floating up into the air.

Well, whatever it is, I like it! :-) Very cool, the light played very nicely off it :-)

@vposey Thanks Vickie- it's definitely steam from the dryer. I was outside the other night getting a piece of wood for the wood stove and saw the steam coming from the dryer in the same way. So that's what it was.
