Icicles 1

This ice formation comes from water which runs down the rocks along State Route 209 and then freezes. I wish I'd stopped to take it on Sunday when there was more, but even today some of the icicles were quite impressive. I did play a little with the exposure on this. And to put this into perspective, those icicles in the center are probably about 5 feet long.
That is such a cool shot. Great pov.

@salza @bkbinthecity @maggiemae @jesperani @sangwann @digitalrn @cimes1 @ididntdoit87 @dakotaburns

Thank you Sally, Brian, Maggie, Jennifer, Dione, Rick, Carole, Hillary and Donald! They really do catch your eye and it was quite interesting to be photographing them as the cars drove by! There was even one very nice couple who stopped to ask if I was ok while I was walking toward them. Once they saw my camera they knew everything was fine! And yes Donald- as a former Jersey Girl (the real kind not those overblown characters on tv) I remember the 280 corridor well!

@prttblues Thank you Bev! lol This pov was by default- I am no rock climber!!
February 15th, 2013
yup! those could do damage to one if they fall off and hit someone. but darn, they are so intriguing and lovely to look at!
February 16th, 2013
@summerfield Thanks Vikki! Thankfully most people whiz by and don't even see them there. However you can see pieces all over the road from melting icicles that couldn't hang on anymore.

Such beauty. you said this was close to a highway? hope you had a walkway or at least enough room to walk by the passing cars.
February 16th, 2013
@bruni Thank you Bruni! It's not as busy as an interstate or super highway, but it is the main corridor between where I live and a town called Milford, so it sees a good share of traffic. The ice is close to the road, but there is just enough room for a photographer to be comfortably safe and the cars can easily see you when you're taking the close-up pictures. So I was safe when I stood there and shot these. I had parked a little ways from them and was walking along the opposite side of the road when a couple stopped their vehicle to see if I was ok. They were so nice and were glad to see the camera in my hand when I told them I was fine.

Fabulous capture. Has the same beauty of a frozen waterfall.

@night_nurse Thanks Cindy! Yes, your shot reminded me of this. So far this winter there have not been enough freezing days to get much of anything here. But it's not over yet!

@olivetreeann Although I despise the cold weather, it does bring out some amazing beauty in nature. When the temperatures freeze again, you can be sure I'll be out there with my camera in hand.
