Today's Mull Over March assignment is to capture architecture (Architecture/Industrial- dramatic images of past & present). We were supposed to get the same winter storm that had passed through the Mid-west here and when I woke up to snow flurries, I decided the best thing to do was stay put for the day. But the flurries dispersed by noon and only the gray clouds remained for the rest of the day. I, however, was still in "stay at home" mode. In fact, I was really in a "stay away from the world" mode yesterday! Thus, this picture is posted late. On top of that I just didn't feel like digging through all my picture archives to find old pictures of old buildings. SO, instead you get a picture of Judy's house that has been made to look old! Actually, Judy's beautiful 4 story Victorian is quite old. I'm not sure when it was built, but it may have been either late in the 19th century or early in the 20th century. The turret in front is an architectural delight! Judy asked me to take this picture. She'll be using a modern, color version to invite friends for dinner. She specifically wanted the side of the house to be shown since it is the side door is what they use for entering and leaving their home.
@pflaume Thank you Lisa! I did 5!! versions of this and I still didn't get what I really wanted! So thank you for that comment, it means a lot! @kerristephens Thank you Kerri!
Your friend's house certainly has a unique architectural style. Love that tower and it looks like it has a big front porch, too. You did a great job giving it a vintage feel. Very nice!
@cimes1 Thank you Carole! This house has two porches! One on the front (which they sadly have stuffed with boxes, hence the side door becoming the front door!) and one upstairs off what used to be the master bedroom. When Judy and Dale first bought the house, it had been made into a two apartment home. They kept it that way for many years and eventually (when the tenant moved) brought the two parts back together. When the second and third floor were an apartment, the upstairs sun porch also became storage and is still used for that. If it were my home, I'd probably live on one of those porches! I would love to convert my deck into a porch! Alas, it's not my home! (But this could also be a good thing- with my arthritis, I don't know if I could climb all those stairs on a regular basis!)
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole! You would LOVE this house! She has some beautiful pieces and has decorated many of the rooms to replicate an era. Judy loves to entertain also. Many times she will ask me to help show people the house when they come over. I tease her and call it the "Miller Museum" and say I'm giving people a "tour". But she gets a kick out of the name.
@sangwann Thanks Dione! Not much of a title- just a statement of the obvious!
@kerristephens Thank you Kerri!
Thank you Simmy, Jennifer, Kathryn, Henri, Laraine, Donald, Diane and Rick! I so appreciate your comments on Judy's house.
