Pastel Shell/Something I Chose to Photograph Today

I searched my home high and low for something in pastel, but really couldn't find much! So, in the end I chose to photograph this little shell, give it some pastel-like processing and tell you the story that goes along with it.

When I was in 9th grade I was on the yearbook staff at school. One day I stayed late to work on some of the layouts but apparently had not told my mother, or I wasn't home when she expected. No matter what the cause, she was worried about me. She kept going to the door and as she did, my youngest sister would follow and watch her worried glance. After several trips back and forth, my mother felt a tug at her side. "Here Mommy," Kim said lifting the little pink shell out of her hand and placing it in my mother's. "What's this for?" my mother asked. With the simple faith of a child Kim explained, "Well, when you listen to the shell you can hear the ocean and the ocean is big like God. So you can talk to God in the shell and He will hear you!" My mother smiled and lifted the shell to her ear. "Dear God, please bring Ann home safely" she prayed. Wouldn't you know the moment she placed that shell back into Kim's hand that I arrived home, dropped off safe and sound by the parent of a friend who also worked on the yearbook. "See, He heard you!" Kim exclaimed and then she went back to playing with her toys. That shell sat on her dresser for many years, and then one day, just before I went off to college, she decided it should stay with me and I have had it ever since.

I've switched up the days again because we'll be traveling, but I'll finish up my Me-March challenge when we return home. Have a great week end and for those of you who celebrate Easter, a blessed Resurrection Day!
