Ants on a Peony by olivetreeann

Ants on a Peony

No little baby animals available to me but I did find some little critters on the peonies at Judy's house. I have no idea why ants like peonies so much. But I don't ever think I've seen a peony without one!
Beautiful

Great shot. This is part of a symbiotic relationship; the ants help the buds open.

For some reason they really attract the ants

Nice shot, Ann! Great detail in the peony and you make those ants look massive! I hate those big black ants. And the little brown ones. And the red ones... Okay... I can't stand any ant. They are such a nuisance! Great job! :)

I have been watching my peonies.... they are getting close to blooming but so far I haven't noticed ants (thankfully!)

When I was about 5, I was covered by a swarm of ants (or at least it felt like a swarm to me; it was probably 5 or 6) as I attempted to pick peonies. I love peonies (and this shot is sensational) but I am definitely wary of their ant passengers.

@summerfield Thank you Vikki! Oh please do not feel bad! I am soooo far behind on 365 it is not even funny! And I've probably missed a gazillion shots of yours as well. Not to worry- we will always be friends! It looks like I will be landing in Batavia for a while some time in July (2nd or 3rd week depending on when grandchild #5 arrives). I will keep you posted as the date approaches!
@vesna0210 Thank you Vesna!
@jplovescotton Thank you Janice! I guess they need the ants though to help the buds open.
@allie912 Thank you Allison! That would totally freak me out! And I don't blame you for being wary!
