@coffeemonster Thank you Matilda! And thank you so much for the fav!! @megmills Thank you Meg! Well, I guess that metaphor doesn't always hold water in the bug world! Point taken! @kerristephens Thanks Kerri!
@maggiemae Thanks Maggie! Getting the ant only in focus is a matter of knowing what my camera will do in macro mode. If what I am focusing on is on a level plane (that is everything I'm shooting is the same distance from the lens) my camera is happy. It gets everything as clear as a bell. But if the subject has different components that are different distances from the lens (as in this flower's petals and stamen are at different depths) and they are of a similar color, my camera has a hard time deciding what I'm trying to shoot. I can tell that it's having a hard time focusing because either a) nothing will be in focus even though I'm shooting macro or b) the camera will randomly choose something to put in focus even if it's not at a central part of the picture- i.e. it's usually the part that is the farthest away and has nothing to do with the shot! In this case I knew the camera was not going to capture a macro with everything clearly shown, so I held it at a range where I thought it would at least get the ant in focus and I lucked out- it worked!
Thanks Ann for your explanation and it rings true. I have an option on my camera as to where it seeks the focus. Wide or very tight. I should change it to tight, i think in these cases!
@maggiemae No problem Maggie! I am always happy to explain what I do to anyone who asks. @twr Thank you Timothy! @taffy Thank you Taffy! @sangwann Thank you Dione! @digitalrn Thanks Rick! @daisy Thanks Kathryn!
