Michael Kenna's photographs fall into two main catagories; natural and industrial. I was really impressed with the video I saw on the process he goes through in choosing and shooting a photo. His natural shots seem to effortlessly blend a dynamic line with negative space. His industrial shots take the grit and grime of industry and through lighting transform it into something beautiful and lovely. But I am not traveling much this week, so to find a factory or open field is not likely. So I have asked myself, "If Michael Kenna was shooting interior shots, what would they look like?" and gone in search of a photo within my own four walls of home. Yesterday's shot was my answer to Kenna's more natural style. Today's shot is (hopefully!) reminiscent of his industrial work. I noticed that he liked darker lighting for this type of shot, so I waited until late afternoon to shoot. Also he tended to focus on the details of machine parts or tools. So for this shot, I decided to use the ladder we have set up for painting our living room as the subject and give it a photographic treatment a la Kenna.
@coastandcactus Thank you Cissy- lol but don't thank me, thank Michael Kenna! If you go to discussions and find the latest posting for the Artist Challenge, there are some links to his photos and interviews.
You have nicely captured a little bit of beautiful industry within the home. How creative to use your ladder for an interior shot. It turned out nicely. :)
@taffy Thank you Taffy! @sangwann Thank you Dione! @kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @digitalrn Thank you Rick! @salza Thank you Sally! @mrssmith203 Thank you Carla! Me too! @twr Thank you Timothy! @gratefulness Thank you Sandi! I usually try to work with what I have rather than go out and find something to fit the situation- although I have made my fair share "just for 365" purchases! @daisy Thank you Kathryn! @prttblues Thank you Bev!
@nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! @lunaksi Thank you Lunaksi! I really like his work and would have loved to imitate one of his nature shots, but I didn't think I'd be able to travel to a place to capture something like that. In the long run I really enjoyed the additional challenge of taking his style and applying it to my world. @henrir Thank you Henri!
