I'm thinking of entering one of the competitions sponsored by the photo club. The theme is "sharp" and I've been trying to come up with something a little less expected and/or typical. I noticed some pottery shards I'd collected after a pot fell over on my deck but forgot to throw out and thought maybe the jagged edge might do. But I'm not sure whether I should use the selective coloring to make the sharpness of the edge stand out or leave it in full color. What do you think?
I lke them both, but think if you're going to use selective coloring, you need to use more than just the background in gray as there is still a lot going on.
Both are nice but I think I prefer the colour version. For me the SC shot doesn't offer anything more than the full colour one. I think Taffy @taffy is correct that more of the colour would need to be removed for the pottery shard to really pop!
Nice shots, Ann! I think you should leave it colored. It took a bit for me to see that one was selective coloring. I like it no matter what you decide! Well spotted and well done :)
Thank you Kerri, Taffy, Sally, Bev, Timothy, Yao, Dione and Rick. I really appreciate the input! I think I will play around with Yao's and Dione's suggestions. I was sort of leaning toward the full color shot, so we'll see. Who knows, I may even find something else all together!
@cimes1 Thank you Carole! Well, typical of my brain these days, I got the cut-off date wrong! Oh well! I'll have to be more aggressive with the next competition and get the shot in within the first week the camera club posts it. But yes, I had decided I would go with the full color.
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole! After all that I went to double check the submission date and I'd missed it. But it was a good exercise anyway and in the end everyone pretty much confirmed what I had started leaning towards anyway. Next time...
