Wooden Road by olivetreeann

Wooden Road

I went to the Pocono Photo Club meeting on Tuesday and thoroughly enjoyed the speaker's presentation on macro photography. I even came home with an inspirational book from her mentor that I know I am going to enjoy. Although there are no competitions scheduled for next month (since there is a special Christmas party with its own competition), the subjects for January's competition were announced- "flat" and "unusual". Of course, I immediately thought of my port-a-potty with mailbox shot for the unusual picture, I was looking forward to getting creative with the word "flat". The first attempt presented itself today while I was washing the dishes. I saw this smooth, flat surface on one of the wood pieces and knew it would make a good shot.
This is a lovely pov.great textures!Is the book you received available for sake anywhere?

you have opened a range of possibilities for photographers. I should explore it one day, But I don't have macro lens. Something to look forward to.

Wow! How cool that you are involved in a photography club. It sounds like fun. Nice capture....and I like the textures of wood. It's always fun to count the circles on the trees....

@mzzhope Thanks Hope! I'm not sure but here's the info:La Luz Del Pueblo- Discovering a Sense of Place in San Miguel de Allende; Nancy Rotenberg & Jeremy Woodhouse; c. 2008 Luz Books ISBN # 978-0-615-24691-8. There is no price listed on the cover, but it is a beautiful coffee table style book and the pictures are spectacular! If you are really interested in it, I'm pretty sure I can get another copy from Laurinda Faye Rubin, the photographer who spoke at our meeting. Nancy Rotenberg was her mentor and has since passed away from cancer, but her husband has given a case of the books to Laurinda. She was giving them to us for free, but if we so chose we could make a donation to the Monroe County 4H program so that she and another photographer could purchase some used DSLR cameras for them to use. So let me know if you have trouble finding it. I have Laurinda's email and I could contact her, or give it to you.

@yaorenliu Thank you Yao. I don't have a macro lens either- just a macro setting on my point and shoot. But the principles are still the same and I learned a lot!
@sangwann Thanks Dione!
@daisyjuds Thank you Judith!
@simster Thank you Simmy!
@tuya Thank you Claire!
@digitalrn Thank you Rick! I'm a little over whelmed by all their super cameras- but I am still enjoying the meetings.
@kerristephens Thank you Kerri!
@salza Thank you Sally! There's definitely a lot of beautiful textures on a wood pile!
@vesna0210 Thank you Vesna!

@mrssmith203 Thank you Carla! It was a big step for me. I know my camera and its limitations and most of the members have these wunder-cameras that take awesome pictures. However, I also find that only a handful of them know how to use them! Most seem to treat them like a point and shoot, and here I am with my little p & s trying to treat it likes it's a Canon EOS! So far I've been sort of quiet, but I am trying to put some things together so that I can participate in some of the exhibitions and competitions. Who knows, if I'm able to sell some of my work or win some prizes, I might just be able to upgrade my p & s to something with a little more flexibility. We'll see...!
@daisy Thanks Kathryn! That's what it looked like to me. That and a river- but I wanted to keep the title in line with the "flat" theme and rivers are not always flat.

I would like to have been in that class, I need it... great shot

@sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry! It's just the local camera club. I had gone to make large prints of some of my pictures and while I was in the camera store I asked them if they could recommend any local clubs. And that's how I found it. I know you travel a lot, but you might find one in your area. Although with all your 365 meet-ups, you may not need one.

It certainly does Ann, great textures. It sounds like you a really enjoying your photography club. How did you go in the competition you entered?

@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole- I am. I'm a bit daunted by the cameras! But I know what my camera can do and it's holding its own. The competition that I entered will be judged on Dec. 2 (I think- I need to find the sheet and write that on the calendar). I should try and get to the exhibit but my car is really showing signs of age and I'm leery of driving it too far from home! There are two more I will be taking part in- one at the club next month and an exhibit in a town hall near here that is sponsored by the club. I have to pick out pictures and get them printed and framed this week. That display goes up on Dec. 2 and I hope to sell the ones I put up. I'm thinking of one of my Vt. barn shots and the close-up of the sunflower center I took this summer. I have such a hard time choosing! I will make sure everyone knows if I win anything in the first one!
@twr Thanks Timothy!
