I will be sharing some of my photos at my photo club meeting next week. I'm not sure what made me think that was a good idea because I have the hardest time choosing what pictures to show!! I took this back in May of 2013 when I met up with Nada at the Great Swamp Nature Reserve in Morristown, NJ for a photo walk. I decided to play around with the processing today as the background seemed a little busy and distracting.
Shot in black and white and sharpened. I then adjusted the hue and saturation as if it were a color picture, and the boosted the contrast and shadows. Next I softened the picture, but painted the fern back in so that it remained sharply in focus. I then converted the picture to sepia (choosing an ecru/taupe tone to make it closer to the black and white effect), repeating the painting process on the fern. Lastly I added a vignette of brown/olive green to balance out the edges and push the focus on to the fern. Now I have to decide if I want to include this in my presentation or not. I'm always second guessing myself when it comes to photo selection. Decisions, decisions!

Thank you Diane and Daisy! I finished picking them and have put them into a slide show, so we'll see how everyone likes them. Thanks to 365 I had quite a few to choose from!
Very good shot, Ann! Love the processing and you explained it quite well. You also did a lot of processing. I wouldn't have thought to do that at all. I am not huge on processing. Look how long it took me to figure out selective coloring! It would take me forever to do what you did here! The detail of the front fern as well as the ones in back is quite good. Well done :)

@alia_801 @sangwann Thank you for the favs!
@pandorasecho They are very good with butter- very tasty!
@digitalrn This is very typical- the back is curled like the neck of a violin- hence the fern's name.
