Tear Drop by olivetreeann

Tear Drop

The shape of this finial on top of an old wrought-iron fence caught my eye. I've been struggling this holiday season. The added news that my younger son and his family will be moving to Texas also hit pretty hard. There's been a few tear drops shed as I know we won't be seeing them for a long time. However, it did remind me that this is a common occurrence for our military families and it made me appreciate all the more the sacrifices they make for our freedom.

No need to comment on this massive upload- I'm filling in gaps before my 4th year on 365 comes to a close!
Nice capture. In 25 years, this is the closest we have lived to my in-laws or my sister. I did have some aunts and cousins about an hour from us in NH, but usually family is 10-12 hours away. My mother-in-law always comments that all of her friends' families live nearby. But, definitely go see him in TX. We loved TX. Great place to spend the winter and to get Tex-Mex food!

Turn this into a positive - what a great excuse to visit Texas and have a whole new photo opportunity. In this day and age it is rarer and rarer to find families living in the same general area. I say that even though I live next door to my niece, my sister and one of her sons and more family live in Florida. But the internet allows you to stay in closer contact. Emails - skyping will allow you to still have a good family relationsip.

It is difficult, but your son has chosen that way of life. So, if he is satisfied..

Close up grit and rust

@homeschoolmom Thank you Lisa for your encouraging words. I don't know whether we will have the finances to visit them in Texas- Jeff is self-employed in a business that fluctuates a lot of times. So at this point I am expecting not to be able to visit. But as you know on the walk of faith, sometimes we discover that "God can make a way when there seems to be no way".

@kerristephens Thank you Kerri!

@joansmor Thank you Joan! I appreciate your thoughts and encouragement. Yes, we will be relying a lot on Skype! I'm not sure whether or not we will actually be able to visit them while they are there. We have always had a very limited budget as Jeff is self-employed and I have been unable to find work in my field since 2005. But you never know! Thanks for the pep-talk- your kindness is very touching!
@nicoleterheide Thanks Nicole!
@vesna0210 Thank you Vesna! He is a good coach and I think the school will be very pleased they hired him. We will miss all of them, but it's not forever.
@altadc Thank you Alta!
@fullcircle Thank you Cindy! Gotta love rust!

Nice shot, Ann. Sad to hear the news of your son moving. Kudos and a big thank you to him for serving. I know it will be hard but there is always Skype.

Great shot. I like the abstract look of this. Thank your son for me for serving our country. I know you will miss him when he and his family move away. It will be good to skype with them.

@prttblues @daisymiller
Thank you Bev and Daisy! I must clarify though- Christopher is not going into the military. His new job will move him and his family to Texas. We will probably not be able to visit them while they live there- too expensive for us- but now I think I have a slight understanding of what military families go through when their loved ones are deployed to places around the world.

Nice shot. I'm sorry about your son moving so far away. Is this a permanent move? Hope you can find a way to visit each other.

I'm feeling the distance of two of my kids this Christmas. Only one can make it so see us, and he is feeling sad that we've moved away from the only home he remembers.

@eudora Thank you Diane for the kind words! It is not planned to be a permanent move, but you never know. We have such a limited budget, I'm not sure we'll make it out there- but again, you never know! If Jeff's work stays busy, it's a slight possibility, we'll see. My parents moved while I was in college. It was strange to go "home" to a house that I really didn't feel all that connected to, so I understand how your son feels.
