Red Ant on Common Mullein by olivetreeann

Red Ant on Common Mullein

I had gone down to the Bushkill the other day to capture how high it was due to all the rain we've had lately. I parked in a spot where lots of Mullein was growing. I often look at wildflowers and enjoy their beauty but on this day I was fascinated to see all the insect life taking advantage of the flowers. The morning sun hadn't burned off the rain from the previous evening either, so you'll be seeing a few more shots from this little photo walk this week.

I almost called this one "Climbing the Summit" as it reminded me of a mountain climber scaling Mount Everest or some other large mountain.
Great pic! love the detail in it.

The flower is a lovely vibrant yellow and I think I recognise it! Must go looking for ants too - wonderful focus!

@juliac Thank you Julia!
@maggiemae Thank you Maggie! Apparently this is not a good sign- see Pyrrhula's comment!
@colleenbrown88 Thank you Colleen!
@prttblues Thank you Bev! If not a good meal at least a good workout!
@dibzgreasley Thanks Debs! The camera opens new worlds when we see smaller things on a larger scale. That was the case here at least.
@salza Thank you Sally!
@thistle Thank you Joyce!
@henrir Thank you Henri!
@pyrrhula Thank you Pyrrhula! I did not know that. Thankfully (I suppose) this plant was growing wild near the road and not in someone's garden.

I learned the hard way that mullen plants are a favorite hiding place for scorpions. I'll never get near another one without gloves.
