This is the more commonly known view of the Pitcher Plant. You will usually see water inside the cups. Bugs get lured in for the water, but the hairs along the inside make it impossible for them to get out.
Thank you Nicole, Rob, Katy, Henri, Marnie, and Vesna! It's so interesting to see this plant and you 'd never know it was connected to the pretty blossoms I've been posting if you were to just see this part.
@robz The bog is a truly unique place. While this shot may give you the impression that the plant is growing in solid ground, it's not. The "soil" is very spongy and sits on top of a watery base. I've been told you can't drown there but you can get really stuck because of the muddy waters. Thankfully when we're photographing we have a board walk to stand on!
