This is a view looking into one of the ribbon making machines at the American Ribbon Factory. The factory has a long and honorable history producing ribbons and cording since April 11, 1913. For the last quarter of a century the factory has been owned and operated by the Arbogast/Barthold families who have carried on the tradition of serving both the military and civilians by producing all kinds of beautiful ribbons. At its peak the factory had over 100 machines in operation and a full dyeing and packaging plant on site. Today there are about 40 looms on site but only a handful are in actual operation (dyeing is done elsewhere now). Production is geared toward specialty ribbons such as those used on military medals. I loved photographing this place- there was so much to see and a photograph at every turn. I've hardly finished posting my pictures from the Castle Inn Shoot Out so those will go on hold for a while so I can share more of the Ribbon Factory shots this week.
Thank you so much for the overwhelming response to this shot!
@zeezee I had my own loom for many years so the looms here were very interesting. They were very much like the woolen kinds but also very different- similar mechanics but much narrower.
@pistache I have no idea- I am typically out of sync with that challenge!
